We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rebecca Lopez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rebecca below.
Alright, Rebecca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
I was recently commissioned to design a logo for The Inclusive Therapy Group, which initially featured a Celtic Knot. Their vision included integrating the LGBTQIA+ Flag colors into the design. During the creative process, I took the concept a step further by incorporating diverse silhouettes within the symbol, enhancing its uniqueness. The new design received an overwhelmingly positive response from their team, and I take great pride in the outcome. I documented the process, capturing a timelapse of this transformation. I love seeing these brands come to life again.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My journey into design and branding started with creating cool eye-catching flyers for concerts in the music industry – a world where visuals spoke volumes. When parenthood shifted my focus, I honed in on brand identity, offering services from brand strategy to logo design. I take pride in crafting brands that tell stories beyond just the logos.
What makes me different is my knack for turning complex ideas into impactful visuals with the team. With years of creating clever designs, we specialize in logos that capture a brand’s heart. I love collaborating, merging a clients’ insights with our creativity to create logos that truly represent their business. It’s this crazy balance of figuring out how to craft a simple meets innovative logo mark. It’s almost as if every design choice has a purpose. An individual picture possesses immense communicative power, and the process of revitalizing a brand is a crucial form of artistic expression. One of my clients phrased it nicely, saying, “Crafting brands isn’t something you do every day.” Hence, allow us to take the reins and create that impact!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
ChatGPT has proven extremely valuable in enhancing my creative concepts. It excels at grasping my clients’ challenges when integrated with my original creative cues. I take the enhanced ideas and incorporate them into Illustrator, where I refine them significantly and transform them into the perfect logo for the task. Integrating AI into my workflow this year has notably improved my design process, seamlessly aligning with the design principles I’ve upheld throughout my two decades in the industry.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the idea that setbacks equate to failure when I faced a challenging period due to a drop in orders on my website. This happened after I switched payment processing companies, and a disconnection led to the decline. It was tough, especially since my family relies on this income. However, I realized setbacks are opportunities to learn.
I understood the importance of maintaining a consistent client base for business success. The support of my family was crucial during this challenging period. Seeking external perspectives, I started seeing a therapist, which had a positive impact on my well-being and business. Given the limited external input for entrepreneurs, this proved valuable. While I’m still in the recovery phase, there’s a noticeable improvement in client numbers. Interestingly, we’ve had the chance to streamline our website about four times. This experience emphasized that setbacks can foster growth, and I’m thankful it turned out that way.
