We recently connected with Rebecca Jordan and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
My journey started from me going to Empire Beauty School and everything seemed to align when the time was right. While in hair school I never thought that I would be running a successful hair company called The Mane Topic Collection. I always knew that I would start doing hair after I graduated but I never knew I would start an actual hair company. Being a master cosmetologist helped me learn about extensions and my clients always needed quality extensions. I wrote down all my ideas and goals and worked towards completing each one. It took me almost a year to find a quality hair vendor. After I found my vendor, I applied for my business license and started on my website. I had to figure out the prices I needed to sell each product for. What started off as just a hair company has flourished to a company that has bonnets, lace glue, lace glue remover, scrunchies, wax sticks, growth oil, and much more.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Rebecca Jordan and I have been a master cosmetologist for 10 plus years. I am also the CEO of The Mane Topic Collection. I specialize in natural hair, extensions, color, and cuts. Anything dealing with hair is a therapeutic for me. I have solved many problems for my clients dealing with hair. Sometimes my clients need quality hair and I have the extensions on hand for them. Some of my clients come in with issues dealing with their natural hair and after we do a client consultation we both figure out which service and/or products needs to be used. I like to think of myself as a Hair Magician. The thing I am most proud of is I never gave up. No matter what challenges may have arose I never gave up. The main thing I want future clients/ followers to know is I am very knowledgeable when it comes to hair. I also take my time and make sure each service being performed fits that client. My extensions from The Mane Topic Collection are top quality as well as all my products. I have put in the time and intensive research to ensure my clients are always given the best starting with the customer service.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
The way I keep in touch with my clients are through loyalty cards and email lists. For my clients who hair I do every fifth service they receive 30% off of their service. At the time of service each card is stamped and when they get to their fifth service they receive 30% off of their service for being a loyal client. I keep in touch with my Mane Topic clients through email lists. Anyone who visits my website www.themanetopiccollection.com can sign up to be placed on the VIP email list. Once you have joined the VIP email list you receive updates regarding future sales, new products, random giveaways, and birthday deals. I have learned that though the email lists may be a little tedious the benefits are amazing once you really get the hang of it. Sending out emails to your clients creates a bond with you and your clients as well as keep them up to date with any changes that may occur within your business. There are many email blast apps that you can use but you have to figure out which one works well with your business.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
After the first year of my business I knew I wanted to sell other things other than extensions, so I made a list of the products I wanted to offer and I wrote down the benefits of each product and how it could help my clients in their everyday lives. The Mane Topic Collection has many products that are offered from quality extensions, bonnets, wax sticks, growth oil, edge bands, lace glue, lace glue remover, edge brushes, mane scrunchies, and now lace melting spray. The thing I have learned along the way is always keeping the communication open with my vendors. I developed a business relationship with my vendors so they know that I love quality and making sure my products are effective. Always double check your products from the labels to the spelling. Never rush with your products because others are doing something. Take your time and make sure products is something that can help your business grow.
