We were lucky to catch up with Rebecca Gosik recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start on the operational side – do you spend more of your time/focus/energy on growing revenue or cutting costs?
I have learned that growing revenue is more important than cutting costs. Of course you don’t want to be too frivolous with funds if you’re on a budget, but there are only so many ways you can cut costs. When growing revenue, the sky is the limit. I like to use the time I would spend trying to figure out where to save money and just do some extra work instead that is helping me get closer toward my goals.
Rebecca, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been a bartender for over 17 years so naturally I love that industry. So when I moved to Fort Lauderdale in 2019 I wanted to explore all the restaurants and nightlife. I found it difficult to find happy hours and entertainment without spending so much time on social media. So with my entrepreneur nature, I decided to take it upon myself to create a directory of those things to help others with the same issue I was having. On the other side, I have seen so many businesses have pretty bad marketing of this information so I also love that I get to help them reach the consumers. It is a lot of work running the Barstool Social app, not to mention an expensive startup, but it’s a labor of love for sure!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I don’t like to read but I love to listen to audio books because I can multi task while doing it which makes me feel extra productive. A few of my favorites are: Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris
How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie
Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
Be Obsessed or Be Average by Grant Cardone
I think it’s really important to keep yourself immersed in self development & business development content.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am still building my audience on social media but I try to be as genuine as possible anytime I put any content out whether its a newsletter, post or story. My industry is not extremely professional so I am sometimes funny yet always honest. I would love to grow even faster but I don’t want to risk any of my accounts getting deleted so I always remind myself that Rome wasn’t built in a day so Barstool Social won’t be either!
