Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rebecca George. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rebecca , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
When I first started my business, I relied on family and friends for support. I asked them to share my social media content and service offerings to their friends. It felt a bit uncomfortable at first because I did not want to burden them with feeling obligated to share my work. I quickly got over those feelings once I realized that word of mouth helped me grow tremendously. Their support also allowed me to practice and perfect my craft.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have always had a passion for skincare and beauty. As a teenager/young adult I had acne and it took a toll on my self-esteem. My desire for clear skin was the driving force for me to research ingredients and products. Once I started to learn more about ingredients, I became passionate about skincare and holistic wellness. After undergrad, I explored different roles in the beauty industry. Though I enjoyed being on the corporate side of beauty, I had a deep desire to help people. After doing research, I came across the world of aesthetics. I enrolled in a program and after 1 year became licensed. I started my business while I was in a marketing role, and started seeing clients after work and on the weekends. Initially I was nervous to work on my business full time, but my role at the company coincidentally ended at the start of the pandemic.
During this time I decided to focus on branding and building my business full time. At present, I am an acne and hyperpigmentation specialist.
I am incredibly proud of the work that I have been able to do to improve the appearance of my clients’ skin and to restore their confidence. It can be a challenging business to be in at times, but it is highly rewarding.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I knew that I eventually would want to run a business full time, so I started saving personal funds. I also used some of my severance pay from my last job to cover start up costs.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The results that I am able to provide my clients with. When people can see the difference in someone’s skin from their first visit to present day, you can see my capabilities as a service provider. I also believe that good customer service and reviews have helped to establish my reputation within the market.
