We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebecca Euvin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Yes! I create personalized and themed Dessert Boxes. Whether someone is celebrating a birthday, anniversary or special day, I build the entire box around that special moment. My signature Dessert Boxes are something unique that no other baker is doing in the area. My The boxes come in 3 different sizes and range from 6 to 22 pieces. They’re a great way to gift someone something sweet and personalized so they know that this specific box was made just for them! These boxes are also great for business owners to send their clients and/or referrals a Branded Box to say Thank You. The box includes a variety of treats so there’s something for everyone!
Rebecca, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Baking was something that was engrained in even my earliest years. Helping my mother in the kitchen was my baptism into what would be a lifelong passion. What started put as a hobby has evolved into Becks Dessert Shop. My specialty is luxury desserts, focusing on all the little details. I love to make things that look too pretty to eat!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I became a Flight Attendant right out of highschool and did that for years before bouncing around to different roles at Aviation companies. About 6 years ago I began selling baked goods out of my home to family and friends and eventually starting selling a Farmer’s Markets on the weekends while working full time during the week. Over the years I built my clientele and perfected my craft until November last year when I decided to take the biggest leap, quit my full time job and sign a lease at a storefront bakery. After 6 months of construction, I finally opened and have been for a little over a month now. This process has been absolutely terrifying and some days I miss my 9-5 job haha but I continue to remind myself that hard work pays off and I would rather work this hard for my own business than someone else’s.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I was always a crafty kid. Growing up my mom and I baked a lot, especially over the Holidays. My mother also taught me how to draw which also helped me learn how to draw/paint on cookies.. Having a creative side has helped me figure out unique ways to decorate cookies. I try my best to create desserts that have a Signature and aesthetically pleasing look. Most people have said that my desserts were so pretty they didn’t want to eat them, which is why my slogan is “Here to make things too pretty to eat”. Continuing that reputation and word of mouth is what helped me build my clientele and how I was able to turn my dream of owning a bakery into reality!
