Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rebecca Eller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rebecca, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Every year I host a client appreciation event where I photograph previous clients for free. I love being able to show clients that I am thankful for them and without them I wouldn’t be able to do the job that I love. To show my appreciation, I have a one day event where clients come at a scheduled time and I photograph them for free, and I include a free digital image they can download from an online gallery with the option to purchase the entire gallery for a very low price. It’s a great way for them to update their family photo! And I absolutely love getting to see all of the babies as they are older and grow into their own unique personality.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I officially started my photography business in 2018, but I had been doing photography as work for several years prior. I first learned how to really operate a camera in college, then I went on to be a photographer in the Marine Corps as a public affairs specialist. After 8 years, the Marine Corps provided me with continued education on photography. I’ve been able to travel around and have finally landed here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The birth of my daughter ignited my passion for photographing newborns, babies, and children. I’ve had training in how to safely pose a newborn, and I continue to take classes to learn the best techniques for baby photography and safety. You can never have too much knowledge! Babies grow up so fast. An infant changes every single day, and I absolutely love being able to capture those brand new moments to cherish forever. A portrait is timeless.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I love to maintain a relationship with clients which is why I offer a yearly client appreciation event where I photograph clients for free. I recently started sending out happy birthday messages to clients who I photographed their newborn session. I love each baby I photograph and want the parents to know how much I truly appreciation in choosing me as their photographer.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Honestly a lot of my clients are referred from previous clients and I absolutely love that! I do have a running Google ad campaign, which I’ll pause if I am too busy, and restart when I’m getting slow on work, I definitely notice an increase in calls and emails shortly after I restart the Google ad campaign.
