We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebecca Elias a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
In the media industry, PAs, grips, and other positions that aren’t as high profile as actors and directors get used and abused. A lot of time there is no paid overtime, no time for bathroom breaks, no time to eat, and by the time you get home at night and have to get back to set the next day, you barely have time to sleep. These people, don’t get paid much. The saying “starving artist” exists for a reason. The thing is…without these core members of a production team, the job can’t get done. The directors won’t get their wishes, the actors won’t have everything prepared for them when they arrive, and things won’t look good for the directors of photography…production is a team sport, and members should be treated equally.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Your business is your livelihood…so is mine.
Without trustworthy, fun, and loyal clients…what do you have?
Let’s see if we can make magic together!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I worked a normal job and kept saving money. With the money I saved, I started buying equipment, cloud space, created a webspace, getting clients, saving that money to get more equipment and the ball kept rolling until I could go full time.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Perfection isn’t possible. Hard work, passion, communication, and honesty is most important. Be a good person, it will attract good people.
