We were lucky to catch up with Rebeca Yonasi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebeca, thanks for joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
I have been training a lot of different people throughout the years, but this time I was blessed to have one of the most inspiring clients I have ever encountered. When I met Ron he seemed to be such a happy person waiting to see how our session will go. I had set up In the park a few dumbbells, some kettlebells, and some other tools and fitness equipment for our session. We did an assessment to see what where his strengths and weaknesses in fitness so that I can help him get in the best shape of his life. Ron is 80 years young and has an amazing ability and openness to learn any task that comes his way! he always walks from home so that he is warmed up plenty and ready to start moving. Parkinsons has not been easy for him, it’s something new and we are trying to work around it and be the strongest and agile person for that hour. While we train he asks for The Beach Boys, and I learned to truly appreciate the music! Ron works out the whole week and is in fantastic shape! He is full of energy and his unconventional workouts consist or TRX, speed ladder, kettlebells, dumbbells , and even parallettes. It’s such an inspiration to see him be able to do this workouts with a big smile, full of energy and always willing to learn a new challenge. He undoubtedly trains like an athlete and I’m extremely proud of him. I learn from him the importance of loving yourself and your body and taking care of your soul as well.

Rebeca, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
If I were to describe myself in two words, it would be: Movement, Athlete. Throughout my life, I have always maintained an active lifestyle. Picking up several sports along the way. At the age of ten, I began taking Fitness classes and continued gymnastics into my teens. Some of my favorite workouts are mobility, movement and bodyweight training. Staying active has always been something I used throughout the years to not only feel good but to release stress. I came to Miami not knowing that I would become a fitness coach.
In my teen years, I applied for a job in a Fitness Center not knowing the owner would hire me right away. I was encouraged to teach classes the following day. I did not have experience since I was just starting my career. It’s funny how the universe works… that moment is when I had to step it up and be the best that I could be and practice and implement all the things I learned, and that is when it all started. I decided to go to college. I went to school for graphic design and decided halfway to change my career to Exercise Physiology. My thing was exercise and movement!! I was passionate about helping people reach their goals. I took every opportunity I had and took workshops and learn the latest techniques in the fitness industry.
I gained knowledge from some of the top coaches in the industry in Miami, California and Austin, Texas. I wanted to know everything related to the body and how to implement functional fitness. I learned about kettlebells, ropes, steel mace and many other functional tools to use during workouts. Over the years, my own training has evolved into more functional body movement and bodyweight exercises that benefit tremendously our bodies. Today I Coach not only movement and fitness, but I also help clients to feel good from the inside out with a bit of meditation. It’s all connected. That self-love, the connection of breathwork and sweating and releasing endorphins. I love what I do!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is passion, loyalty, flexibility, trust, and friendship. Putting all my effort into helping my clients with love and genuinely caring in helping the person, learning their needs and putting the time to help them reach their goals. Teaching them patience, good technique, and always to have fun with what we do! I strive to find the perfect combination of modality that each client needs and take my time to create a good holistic program that connects not only the client’s health and nutrition but also, their body and mind.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I consider myself a multipotentialite. A person with many interests and creative pursuits. I have learned crystal therapy, marketing, graphic design and nutrition, and even real estate and maybe a little bit many more things, but from all of the professions what speaks to me the most is movement! helping people live longer, and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.. I would choose to be a movement coach/personal trainer a thousand times again.
