We recently connected with Rebeca Victoria and have shared our conversation below.
Rebeca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
My early twenties were a whirlwind of creative exploration, a passionate dance between the lens and the world of fashion. At 21, I found myself immersed in the backstage buzz of runway shows, capturing the raw energy and artistry of local designers for a fashion magazine. Armed with my trusty film camera, I documented the makeup artists weaving their magic, transforming models into ethereal visions. Each click of the shutter was a step deeper into a world I longed to be part of.
Those were the days before instant gratification, where every image was a labor of love. Developing film process, the anticipation building with each frame. Then, the meticulous process of scanning, editing, and collaging, creating visual narratives that captured the essence of each event. Miami Beach, New York City – the vibrant backdrops to my burgeoning passion.
But I yearned for more than just capturing the magic; I wanted to create it. A few years later, my journey took an exciting turn. Music videos became my canvas, each project a chance to weave together fashion, storytelling, and visual artistry. Collaborating with friends, we transformed thrift store finds into unique costumes, conjuring narratives that unfolded against backdrops as diverse as the stories themselves – from sun-drenched fields to dimly lit studios.
This early immersion in the creative process ignited a fire within me. It wasn’t just about the clothes; it was about the emotions they evoked, the stories they told, and the transformative power of fashion. And so, my journey continued, each step leading me closer to the heart of the industry I had come to adore.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My early passion for prints and photography laid the groundwork for an unexpected journey into the heart of fashion. During my university years, a spark ignited. Collaborating with a talented illustrator friend, we transformed her whimsical creations into vibrant screen prints, adorning t-shirts and garments with a unique artistic flair. In the early 2000s, this was a novel concept, a bold departure from the minimalist trends of the time.
Driven by a desire to infuse clothing with narrative, I developed a character, a romantic heroine with a captivating story. This muse became an obsession, her journey woven into the very fabric of my designs. Local boutiques embraced the artistic prints and high-quality fabrics, fueling my passion and validating my vision.
A few years later, my sister, an artist herself, joined the adventure. Together, we breathed life into our collections, expanding beyond t-shirts to encompass a full range of garments, all crafted with sustainable fabrics, a rarity at the time. Our debut at fashion trade shows was met with resounding enthusiasm, buyers captivated by our innovative approach and unique storytelling.
This early success propelled us forward. We sought out skilled manufacturers, eager to bring our creations to the wider market. Years passed, marked by growth, challenges, and unwavering dedication. We navigated the ever-shifting landscape of fashion, adapting to competition, price fluctuations, and the evolving demands of conscious consumers.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge, I returned to school, immersing myself in the world of textiles and print design. I embraced new technologies, mastering the art of sustainable and circular production. Today, I create my own textiles and prints, each one a testament to Nuvula’s enduring commitment to storytelling and magic. With every collection, we invite our customers to step into a world of wonder, where fashion transcends the ordinary and becomes a canvas for dreams.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The launch of Nuvula was a leap of faith, a dive into the deep end of the fashion industry with a heart full of dreams and a head full of designs. Armed with the technical skills honed in design school, I was blissfully unaware of the intricate labyrinth that lay ahead. Software mastery and artistic flair were merely the opening act in a grand production filled with unexpected twists, turns, and challenges.
Back then, the internet was a nascent landscape, a digital frontier where websites were static brochures and emails the primary mode of communication. Forget online tutorials or business guides; the path to success was paved with intuition, trial-and-error, and a healthy dose of resilience.
The challenges were relentless. How to navigate the murky waters of production? Where to find ethical manufacturers who shared my vision for sustainable practices? How to manage the financial tightrope walk of a burgeoning business? These were questions with no easy answers, lessons learned through hard-won experience and the occasional stumble.
Yet, amidst the uncertainty, a fierce determination burned bright. Each obstacle overcome fueled a deeper understanding of the industry’s intricate machinery. Every misstep was a lesson learned, a stepping stone on the path to building a brand that not only reflected my creative vision but also embodied my values.
It was a baptism by fire, a crash course in the realities of fashion entrepreneurship. But through it all, the unwavering belief in Nuvula’s potential, coupled with an unyielding spirit, guided me through the labyrinth and towards the vibrant tapestry of what the brand is today.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For a creative spirit, the journey of design is an endless odyssey, a captivating dance between inspiration and execution. Each season, a new story unfolds, a continuation of the narrative or a bold departure into uncharted territories. The hunger to evolve, to refine one’s craft, becomes an all-consuming passion, an obsession that fuels the creative fire.
The world becomes a canvas, every experience a brushstroke. The subtle nuances of nature, the raw emotions of human interaction, the whispers of history – all these elements converge and find expression in the tapestry of art.
But the true magic lies in the introspective process, the silent dialogue between the artist and their creation. It’s in those moments of quiet contemplation that true evolution occurs. Not just as an artist, but as a human being. The introspection, the challenges, the triumphs – they all fuel the fire, feeding the passion that sustains the creative journey.
It’s not merely the final product that ignites the soul, but the journey itself. The thrill of witnessing the mind expand, absorbing new techniques, mastering unfamiliar processes. This continuous learning, this insatiable curiosity, is the lifeblood of creativity, the driving force behind motivation and dreams.
The creative process becomes a crucible, forging not just art, but a deeper understanding of oneself and the world around. It’s a journey of self-discovery, a constant evolution that transcends the boundaries of the canvas and shapes the very essence of our being.
