Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rebeca Ango Bueriberi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Rebeca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my EP, STAARI TIME: Echoes of a Ruptura, which is my first release under my independent label, Bilëbbó Fusión. While it’s not my debut work, it represents a significant milestone in my career as Böitaari, as it’s the first time I’ve had the courage to share deeply personal experiences through my music.
The EP draws from my own journey, exploring the emotional phases of a breakup—obsession, self-reflection, and closure—with two alternate endings: one peaceful and one tragic. The music blends bossa nova, kompa, flamenco reggae, and avant-garde jazz, reflecting not only my versatility as an artist but also my maturity and confidence in expressing vulnerability.
What makes this project especially meaningful is the creative and professional growth it represents. After starting my music career at 12 years old, this is the first time I’ve been fully in charge of every aspect of a release. Being the founder of Bilëbbó Fusión has allowed me to take complete ownership of the music, visuals, and storytelling. For example, the visualizer includes symbolic elements like the red Ottoman shawl, which represents the loved one and the protagonist’s emotional evolution.
This project has been a labor of love, requiring me to balance my roles as an artist, entrepreneur, and storyteller. It marks a new chapter in my career—one where I feel fully in control of my artistry and confident in creating meaningful work that resonates on a deeper level.
Ultimately, STAARI TIME is not just a project; it’s a reflection of who I’ve become—an artist who embraces both my vulnerability and my strength, and someone who is proud to shape my own path in music.

Rebeca, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Rebeca Ango Bueriberi, known artistically as Böitaari, an Afrohispanic creative entrepreneur and music artist. Born in Spain to Equatorial Guinean parents, with Cameroonian, Sierra Leonean, and Cuban roots, my multicultural heritage is a source of immense pride. It shapes how I navigate the world and brings a unique perspective to my creative work.
My music blends African, Latin, Caribbean, and Mediterranean sounds into an eclectic style that stands out for its vibrancy and depth. As an artist, I’m deeply committed to storytelling. My work invites audiences to connect with themes that feel personal yet universal, delivered through innovative music and striking visual narratives. I’m particularly proud of my ability to create multilingual music, which bridges cultures and reaches diverse audiences.
In addition to my music, I’m the founder of Bilëbbó Fusión, an independent label I launched to fully own and shape my creative vision. Bilëbbó Fusión allows me to produce work that’s authentic and meaningful while also embracing the freedom to experiment and innovate. Through the label, I aim to create projects that challenge norms and inspire others to explore their own creativity.
What sets me apart is my approach to art as a multi-layered experience. My work combines emotional depth with a global perspective, blending different genres and sounds in ways that feel fresh and dynamic. Visual storytelling is an integral part of my artistry, with each project designed to engage audiences on multiple levels—whether through music, imagery, or symbolism.
I’m most proud of the journey I’ve taken to carve out my own space as an independent artist and entrepreneur. It’s a path that’s required courage, resilience, and a willingness to take risks, but it’s allowed me to create work that feels true to who I am. For my followers and fans, I want them to know that my art is a celebration of individuality, culture, and connection. Through my music and visual storytelling, I aim to inspire others to embrace their own stories and pursue their creative dreams with boldness and authenticity.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that being multifaceted meant I wasn’t “focused enough” or that I needed to fit into one predefined role to succeed.
For years, I struggled with the belief that I had to choose between being an artist, a businesswoman, or a storyteller. I felt like embracing all aspects of who I am—my love for music, visuals, creative direction, and entrepreneurship—would make me seem scattered or less serious about my craft.
This mindset started to shift when I founded my independent label, Bilëbbó Fusión. I realized that my versatility wasn’t a weakness; it was my greatest strength. I could be an artist writing deeply personal songs one moment, a producer refining the sound the next, and a creative director envisioning the visual story. And as an entrepreneur, I could bring it all together, turning my vision into a tangible reality.
The more I leaned into my multifaceted identity, the more everything fell into place. It allowed me to innovate freely, create work that felt authentic, and embrace the freedom that comes with defining success on my own terms.
Unlearning the idea of “staying in one lane” has been transformative. It’s taught me that creativity isn’t linear—it’s a spectrum. By embracing all sides of myself, I’ve been able to create work that’s not just diverse, but deeply reflective of who I am.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
One thing I think non-creatives often struggle to understand is just how much emotional labor and energy go into creating meaningful art. Being a creative isn’t just about talent; it’s about pouring your heart and soul into something intangible and hoping it connects with others. It’s a process that can be both fulfilling and exhausting.
For example, when I create music, it’s not just about writing a song. It’s about reliving personal experiences, diving into complex emotions, and finding ways to translate them into something universal. The same applies to the visual aspects of my work—I strive to infuse symbolism and layers of meaning into every detail.
Beyond the creative process, there’s the business side of things. As an independent artist and entrepreneur, I have to manage my label, market my work, and plan every step of my career. It’s a constant balance between being an artist and running a business, which requires wearing so many hats at once.
What’s most misunderstood, perhaps, is how lonely and uncertain the journey can feel at times. There’s no guaranteed roadmap, and the path is filled with self-doubt, late nights, and sacrifices that aren’t always visible to others. But at the same time, it’s incredibly rewarding to see your vision take shape and resonate with others.
I hope that by sharing these challenges, more people can appreciate the depth and dedication it takes to pursue a creative path, and perhaps feel inspired to support the artists in their lives in meaningful ways.
