We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Reason Unknown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Reason below.
Reason, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Our last album Nothing Left But This was recorded at Ryan Greenes Validus Recording studio, and produced by Scott Hallquist of Ten Foot Pole. It was crazy walking into the studio and seeing platinum and gold records on the wall, and Stevie Wonder’s drummers drum set was also in studio. It was an intimidating way to start the process, but definitely gave us a feeling of, “hell yeah, time to get to work. Patrick got to cut his guitar parts using the legendary Mars amp from the Motor Studios days. Some of the most iconic punk rock players played through that amp, it was a pinch me moment. Really, the whole process was very rewarding. Having Scott at the helm was a no bullshit scenario, he got great things out of us, and we are big fans of Ten Foot Pole, so everything was surreal in the best way possible, and we believe we put out our best recorded effort to date.

Reason, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are a punk rock band from Phoenix, AZ. All four of us are students of music and luckily we found each other and have grown together both personally and professionally. We show up, play our set and don’t give promoters any problems. Definitely proud of the fact that this band runs as a democracy, and have never had any nasty blowups at each other. We’ve been at it 18 years now and still enjoy it like year 1. Something to know about us is what you see is what you get. We don’t pretend to be something we aren’t. We are just 4 blue collar guys who like playing snotty pissed off music.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Show up and support the independent artists, we depend on you. Buy merch and albums directly from artists so you know they are making the money so they can continue. Something everyone can do collectively is say fuck Ticketmaster and don’t give them a dime of your hard earned money. Indie artists actually appreciate their fans, for the most part, there are some outliers though.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing the crowd connect with us. When you look out in the audience and see people singing a long, that’s the greatest feeling because you have created something that resonates with someone, and that is priceless.
