We were lucky to catch up with ReAnna Stevenson recently and have shared our conversation below.
ReAnna , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Back in 2018 I applied to a fashion academy in New York called the Misa Hylton Fashion Academy Ms.Hylton is a pioneer in the fashion and styling industry and has worked with so many people. I had an interview and got accepted Shortly after me being accepted, right before the program started, I received a bonus from the company i currently work for that allowed me be able to pay for my tuition for the entire year, once I got that I said to myself “Ok God” I see you working. Now Ive had some days I wanted to give up, some days I questioned but each time I did that God blessed me with an opportunity. Ill just give you a little example: in October of 2018 I wrote in my journal a Head Stylist that I wanted to work under by the name of Jason Rembert, I had followed him and his work for a while . One day he put in his story asking if anyone had any fashion questions. I wrote him back asking was he looking for any interns and minutes later he replied and said yes send over your resume to my email. 2 weeks later I received an email wanting to set up an interview, they had no clue I lived in Ohio, and I wasn’t saying anything. I showed up fresh off the plan luggage and all. They were impressed and a week later I received an email welcoming me to the team. I knew then that is was me!
I traveled to new York even after I graduated from the academy to work as an intern not being paid once or twice a month Its been days I’ve been tired, drained but I kept going because I had a vision
I would get off from working here in Toledo hop on a plane to go work in NYC.
People always asked how do you do that, but its what I wanted and by me having so much drive, it; landed me working with people such as Issa Rae, Michael B Jordan, Mary J B. music videos campaigns and such .
I say all this to let you know that anything is possible. Anything in this world.
Find your purpose, and be passionate about it , have a clear vision and keep your faith. Also surround yourself around the right people and work hard . I always envision myself walking through tunnel and at the end I see a rainbow, not to far and I have to go up and down some hills but ill make it to that rainbow and receive my prize.

ReAnna , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Funny thing about me is I’ve always been into fashion since I was 5 years old. I always knew what I wanted to wear, how I wanted to look!
How I found out about the program I was in is through my cousin tagging me in it on instagram..
I’m just proud of myself in general , being a small town girl and chasing your dream is something to be proud of. Placing myself in rooms with people and just going after what I want .

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that sometimes everything it’s for you. It’s certain jobs I couldn’t take due to my location and timing. I use to get dis but what I’ve learned is that what’s for me will always be for me and to never give up. As well as to always be a student. I’m always willing to learn from others .

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Back when Covid hit , I thought my career in the fashion industry was over .
Right before it is when things stated to really pick up for me .
I just had to tell myself to utilize my resources so that’s when I started doing a lot of virtual styling and making myself known that way keeping myself busy in my passion .
