We recently connected with Reagan Kathryn and have shared our conversation below.
Reagan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I lived the first half of my life afraid. I can still remember secretly getting the scripts for a theatre audition for a performing arts high school, and practicing the Jaberwoky monologue in my bed late at night when I was certain no one could hear me – but then never making my way to the actual audition. Or how I watched a classmate in high school dress up in a costume she had made – and I longed desperately to attempt to make one of my own. Putting fabric into a cart only to be abandoned later. I lived daily with the clawing fear of what others would say of my potential failure – never stopping to imagine what I would feel about my potential success.
Years later, as I was graduating college I mustered up every bit of nerve that I had in my entire body – and attended a convention in California (at the time, a location miles away from my Louisiana dwelling). The feeling of pure joy and belonging, mixed with a big hefty scoop of fear, was unlike anything I had ever felt. I have been living in that feeling ever since.
I learned that I never regretted the “weird” or “silly” things that I tried. It didn’t matter if someone thought that what I was doing was too off the cuff- the fun that I was having and the feeling of being in my element was too great. I learned the only thing I regretted was all the years I spent not doing what made my heart sing. The years I spent being too afraid to take the chance on what I knew deep down I wanted.
Now I try to live my life so that I will never have a regret of an unchased dream. Trying my best to live by the mantra of “do it afraid”

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Reagan Kathryn and I am a Cosplayer and Voice Actress.
I make costumes based on characters from animes, video games, and pop culture. I have spent the past 8 years teaching myself how to be the best craftsman I can be and im incredibly proud of my creations that I pour literal blood, sweat, and tears into. I have built up a portfolio I could never in my wildest dreams dremnt up. From Cosplaying a character for my favorite childhood video game company Nexon – to having the incredible opportunty to fly all over the world in costume. Its truly been an expierence I will never stop being thankful for.
My favorite work always comes from bringing characters to life for different companies, from Bandai Namco, Sega, Epic Seven, Capcom, and more – nothing makes me more thrilled than getting to work with my favorite ip’s portraying their beloved characters.
Additionally, I love to educate other cosplayers and creatives to start and excel in their journey. My favorite form of content to produce is educational. Whether that is showing cosplayers different techniques to make things – or pulling the curtain back on how to get brand deals. grow your social media, or reach out to conventions. I hope that I will be able to help anyone who reaches my channel to leave with more knowledge on how to grasp their own dreams.
In addition to cosplay, I also work as a voice actress for games like Genshin Impact, Eternal Return, and more. I love taking classes and learning everything I can to better play behind the microphone. And it truly is a dream to continue walking the path of a creative life. When I am not sewing or in a session – I am taking classes to countinously grow and learn more.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
One of the comments i get most often is from people who feel regretful that they cannot support me in a monetary fashion. And I think the main thing I want society at large to know is that the BEST way you can support your favorite artist or creator is by engaging with them. That means liking, commenting, saving, sharing, tagging a friend! Any action on social media that you can take on a creators post – the more it helps and supports!
Social Media is such a huge way for companies to find and work with us – and by engaging with creators contents you are boosting them to a wider audience that helps the companies find us! Even if you yourself have 0 followers!
I would choose someone always liking, commenting, and sharing my work over them giving me money almost anyday (unless you are a billionaire and want to give me A LOT of money – im open :D)
So never underestimate the power of talking about your favorite creator!

How did you build your audience on social media?
I have always been overly obsessed with Social Media. So much so that I worked in it for over 10 years. From small indie games to large AAA companies.
The best advice I can give for people who are starting out is to be athentic. Try not to think about what your audience wants to see, and instead think about what it is you personally want to watch and create. That is where true art starts to happen in my opinion.
There is unfortunately not “get a million followers quick” scheme. So try to show up consistently (constency is KEY) and track your analytics to continue to improve upon your content. If you do a post that does really well – try to make a similar post later (or even repost the original down the line).
Follow other creators who are successful and take inspiration from what they do, additionally follow smaller creators whose work you love and support them with the same fervor that you would want them to do to you.
At the end of the day, social media is fickle. It is constantly changing and you never know what will be successful. So don’t get discouraged and keep working to create the best possible art you can!
