We were lucky to catch up with Ré Alissa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ré thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I truly believe I have the best parents in the whole world. From a super young age, one thing they’ve always instilled in me is that I can do achieve literally anything I put my mind to. Growing up, there was nothing that felt impossible— no dream that felt out of reach. Because of that, I’ve always known that I can have anything I’m willing to work for. That has played such a huge role in my creative journey, and just in my life in general!
Ré , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an all around R&B artist— singer, songwriter and producer. Writing most of my own songs about the ups and downs of love, life and relationships, my music serves as a major outlet for me and other people. I come from a musical family, so I started off pretty young. As a little girl I sang and played instruments at church and in the local community choir and band. I then went on to sign to an acting/modeling agency, followed by attending performing arts high school. I think what sets me apart from others is my unique style of singing, writing and producing! As a big music head, I really try to incorporate elements of music from every genre, every time period, and every artist that has impacted me. I think that come across in my music and the music that I write for others.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Grants for upcoming artists & musicians! Oh my goodness. I had no idea that there were organizations and agencies that will literally give you money to pursue your dream and further your career. Earlier in the game, and even now, that would have been a major game changer! It is so expensive being an upcoming independent artist. Between paying for production, recording songs, having them engineered, paying for distribution and marketing, paying for visuals to promote the songs— it’s ROUGH.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
“Talent alone will get you into the industry.” It definitely doesn’t work like that anymore. First starting out as a little girl, talent got me into a lot but it doesn’t quite work like that in the music industry. You really need to have a brand, a plan, and a presence. That has been my focus for the past few years— to really develop those three things.
