We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rcc a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, RCC thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
We learned some parts of music and the music business at a young age. Our parents were successful musicians in their own right and we took bits and pieces from them.
Although we learned some things from them at a young age, we didn’t fully commit to learning and understanding until we got older. We started taking music seriously around 2018. Our learning and growing process could have been a lot quicker if we would have started when our curiosities were peaked. Especially when it comes to playing our instruments.
One of the skills that we feel are most essential is learning the music business so that no one can take advantage of you or get credit for your work. Don’t make money the very first priority because that’s how you start making bad decisions. It’s also very essential to have a good team around you and be good at making meaningful connections. Thats how everyone grows and thrives.
It’s hard to say what obstacles stand in the way of learning because in the 21st century, we have the internet. We are blessed to be able to look up anything and find resources, references and new ideas. But also, there is bad information out there, or information that may not work for us as it did for others, so we have to be diligent.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are RCC, a dynamic rising hip hop collective, comprised of siblings from Arizona and California. Blending R&B, Rap, and Pop to create a unique sound.
We developed a love for music because we watched our parents navigate it and it inspired us. We have a passion for writing and creating. One of our favorite things is being home together with our parents, pulling out all the instruments and playing and singing together; all improvisation to create something special.
What sets us apart from other musicians is that we play and write all sorts of genres of music, we are able to perform at shows that host hip hop artists, pop artists, and r&b. We play at clubs, festivals, bars, restaurants, and wherever else we can plug our instruments in. We go from high energy shows to intimate settings and thrive in both. We won’t be boxed in or categorized to a single genre, we let the music speak to us no matter the music classification. We also are siblings, so we can blend our voices well and we have that bond that can’t be duplicated.
We are proud of where we are today. Our hard-work led us to having some opportunities that we dreamed of. Like sharing the stage with many successful artists.
