We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful R’Banney Blackmon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with R’Banney below.
R’Banney, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
First and foremost, I enjoy servicing others and making them feel good and look good. My main objective is representing a very attractive and beguiling woman or man. After experiencing alopecia and various skin issues, I developed an even deeper passion to learn how to make custom hair units, install them and apply makeup for others and my imperfections. I believe nothing should stop a person from feeling beautiful, even the things we feel hold us back can be what actually propels us forward; I experienced this first hand and want to help others around me feel that same strength! Our hair and makeup mission is to empower and bring out your inner beauty so that it shines throughout your outer canvas.
R’Banney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been into beauty since a child watching my Mom and Aunt cake their faces in the 90s. I was taught how to curl, color and cut hair at home as well. However, after high school I didn’t fully pursue beauty, even though I attended cosmetology class while in high school. Soon after graduating, I went to the military and as my time became close to transitioning out the Army, I decided to start my business in 2018. I started making wigs and providing makeup services for my friends and co-workers. Shortly thereafter, I began modeling and doing makeup simultaneously. I named my business “BeatbyRB”. What set me apart was I was able to do makeup fast before “Go Time on the runway”. My line would so long. I would get fueled even more. That’s when I knew this industry was for me. I wasn’t tired after long days of makeup and walking the runway right after I was done with models. It felt like that was my lane and purpose. As my time came near to fully transition out the Army in 2019 after serving 10 years, I moved to Dallas where I rebranded into N’Chantress. N’Chantress is a freelance makeup service, custom wig and self-development business. We specialize in working on more mature skin types, covering blemished and acne prone skin. I make custom and natural looking wigs for clients who suffer from alopecia or simply looking for a more convenient style. Furthermore, I’m most proud of all of the women I’ve impacted throughout this ongoing journey. I’m constantly reminded from the people around me how inspirational I am. That’s what keeps me going. Even with other personal accomplishments, that’s what I love the most. My saying always to my clients “I’m here for you “ !
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being punctual, authentic, respectful and genuine. Having integrity and understanding what my target audience’s specific needs are. I don’t take lightly to playing with other’s time and money. In addition to, this industry sometimes you find yourself being more than what you are set to be. Meaning you maybe be a teacher today and a counselor tomorrow and that’s okay sometimes.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My transition out the military was difficult! I had no one to call or understand the civilian side of business or even personal life. While getting figuring out my next place of residence, I became somewhat homeless all while servicing clients. That’s when I finalized my decision to move to Dallas. I packed my car up with all that I had in my possession and drove from Jacksonville Florida to Texas. I rebranded and started networking, learning and meeting new people throughout the city. I did all of this while suffering from major depression in 2019 until early 2020. I kept going because I know what I love the most.
