We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rayniel Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rayniel , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Rayniel Johnson and I’m the owner of Real, Unique, and Beautiful Studio Cosmetics Llc (RUB Studio Cosmetics). As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had an interest in the world of beauty, from fashion designing to hair and makeup. As a little girl, I enjoyed drawing figures of women wearing designer clothing, and I would color the faces to make them look as if they had on makeup. As I grew older into my teenage years my passion for makeup grew more apparent. When I would get booked/hired women would always tell me stories about their insecurities and how they just want to be pretty for a day. That’s when I realized that makeup was more than cosmetics applied to your face to enhance one’s appearance; makeup was powerful. I’d often find myself uplifting, encouraging, and motivating women to realize their natural beauty from the inside out. I knew then that it was time that I started my own cosmetic line to not only satisfy my passion for makeup but to fulfill my purpose to help women across the world to recognize their beauty beyond the mirror. That’s what also motivated Real, Unique, and Beautiful Studio Cosmetics llc (RUB Studio Cosmetics) to be created.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been, hands down, word-of-mouth. While social media marketing, content marketing, influencer marketing, email marketing, and online advertising are all effective ways to market your brand and gain new clients, word-of-mouth has definitely increased my new client reach. Makeup is one of those things where people need to use all of their senses to decide whether they want to make a purchase. People want to hear, smell, see, taste, and touch the products. Although there are many software products/tools that can be used on your website for potential clients to see what they would look like wearing your products, it doesn’t quite live up to applying the real thing. When someone spread the word that they absolutely love your products, the other party/parties are going to be interested in trying the products for themselves. Although it may not seem to be as popular as it once was, word-of-mouth is still the most powerful form of marketing.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I can give you a list of lessons I’ve had to unlearn but there is one that stands out the most. I had to learn to not be fearful. I didn’t realize it for a while, but I learned how to be fearful. When I would share my thoughts with people and ask for their opinions, I noticed that they would always counter my thoughts. For instance, I had caught up with an old friend and I was sharing with her my goals and plans. Because I did not feel the need to hold back and I trusted her with my thoughts and ideas, I assumed (you know what they say about that) that she would be supportive of my ideas. However, she questioned me about what if it doesn’t work and what would I do. Needless to say, she went on and on to challenge my plans and ideas. I listened to her, and I began to question myself as well, not realizing at the time that I had allowed fear to disrupt my plans and ideas. Often times we as people have a tendency to be unaware of the connection we have to a negative learned emotion, such as fear. I had to unlearn living in fear. I had to learn how to not be fearful of my own thoughts, plans, and ideas. I soon realized that I was only sabotaging myself. The beautiful lesson in it all was that I learned the opposite of fear which is knowledge and understanding. I diligently researched my ideas, I began to understand and put my plans into perspective and now I’m living my dream.
