We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rayne Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rayne , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think it takes discipline and determination to be successful. Not everything is a quick flip or a quick come up to success over night and I had to implement that into my mind when I first started my business. If you sit there and start scrolling on social media you see all of these entrepreneurs living these lavish lifestyles but you really don’t get to see the hard work, dedication and discipline they put in to climb their way to success.
Rayne , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, My name is Rayne Williams from cleveland, OH. I am currently a 17 year old senior in highschool pursuing multiple dreams and aspirations I have for myself. Which includes my own reselling business by the name of “BlitzGotEm” and many other special traits I carry which can open up new doors of opportunity’s for myself. Shoes have always been a big factor in my life because to me it is another way of trying to express yourself without saying anything and a way for you to catch peoples attention. Trying to get into the reselling industry wasn’t as easy as i thought it would be, mainly because in this industry to have a successful reselling business you have to have the right connections and the right mindset going into this. I sacrificed many nights staying up watching and reviewing videos on the topic of sneaker reselling, taking any information and knowledge I have learned from those videos and applying to myself. Overall starting out with zero experience and low capital wasn’t my ideal plan but anything is possible when you put your mind to it. Dec 10th of 2022 i purchased my first shoe ever to resell, within a few days i sold the shoe and rinsed and repeated the same process over and over, and from there my business took off. While providing people with the latest fashion Trends (Sneakers, apparel and accessories) at an affordable price.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
On February 9th of 2023 I was involved in car accident which left the car totaled and me hospitalized. I cant remember every detail but what i do remember is driving down a street and seeing two deer’s run out and freeze while looking dead at my headlights. With the seconds i had left to react i swerved and droved head first into a pole, leaving me unconscious for I’m not sure how long. I eventually woke up and was stuck in the front seat and realizing that the pole fell on top of the car and crushed the hood on top of me. not realizing how injured i was i grabbed my phone and called my mom and she talked me through everything until her and the ambulance got there and once they got there everything was a blur. Waking up the next day in the hospital happy to be alive but realizing the amount of stitches in my face, legs and arms scared me straight. Thank God i was able to walk out of there 2 days later with my best ability’s. With that being said without me there is no “BlitzGotEm” and i would’ve lost everything including my life.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
After running my business’ for almost a year I find it best that I sell and make more money to invest in my business by selling on my own website. All these other reselling platforms such as Amazon, StockX and goat take a numerous of fees out which lowers your potential earnings on the products you want to sell. Knowing myself I want to maximize my profit and my ability to put myself out there more to grow my clientele and to grow my business in general and on other platforms they sell your items as their own which kills any possibility of any returning customers in any way. Which why I prefer to sell on my own website.
