We recently connected with Raymonn Moore and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Raymonn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I have been planning events since my college days working for the Black Student Association so the knowledge has always been there.
The biggest challenge for me in terms of getting started was having the courage to actually start. There was SO much competition in Memphis back in the late 2000s and early 2010s and I wasn’t completely ready for what it would take to stand apart from the pack.
I knew I was creative enough to have success in the events industry yet I didn’t have many friends or colleagues to push me or help me along the way. A trip to New Orleans in 2013 Changed everything.
So I decided to launch myself fully into the game by creating the Old School Cocktail Party and the Black and White Social. There was tons of logistics learning, marketing strategy and good luck involved but those two events laid the foundation for what I do today and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My company Nightlife Concierge LLC is a niche event planning business. We specialize in our own curated annual events and crafting events for countless others.
We have been contracted for numerous baby showers, weddings, retirement dinners, grand openings to name a few. We host annual events of all varieties with Brunchella, DRIP Poolside Series, and the Black and White Day Party as our anchors.
We have over 30 combined years of experience in the industry and we continue to grow our brand through solid interactions with our clients and customers while providing the best in customer service.
We have great relationships with all of our previous vendors and sponsors which had allowed our network to evolve while meeting new folks along the way.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I tell new entrepreneurs all the time that this shit ain’t for the weak lol. We all start somewhere and the majority of the time we create our side hustles while we are punching the clock for someone else. I was no different. The old saying is true, it takes money to make money so keeping your main job while pursuing the dream was a must. For me as my audience grew and more people got exposed to my product, the attendance numbers naturally grew. But the Summer of 2021 forced my hand in a way I didn’t expect. Those Poolside Brunch parties were so popular that the time I was spending at work was hindering me from making the most of the side hustle. The parties were bringing in FAR more than the day job to the point I had to throw the dueces. It’s a scary thing when you have a family to support and all you have is this idea, and a hustling spirit. But that and a little faith is all you need to carry you through anything. There will be ups and downs no doubt but those wins hit real different when you create it yourself.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building your audience can be easy when you are popular but can seem damn near impossible when you aren’t.
For me I learned to market my events and services to people who showed genuine interest. A lot of times we want to market to the people WE deem important and those people may not share the same interests. Those who are meant to follow your lead will do so naturally. If you are having to twist, turn, and gesture to get someone’s support it will very likely not be worth it in the long run. Focus on those who give you love and support along with their friends and colleagues is the beat advice I can offer.
