We recently connected with RAYMIN REYES and have shared our conversation below.
RAYMIN, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is your team able to work remotely? If so, how have you made it work? What, if any, have been the pitfalls? What have been the non-obvious benefits?
First, I want to tell you my story of how I came out to work remotely and how eventually I decided to open my own business.
I am a mom of 3 girls, graduated from the University of the Phils took Bachelor of Science major in Clothing Technology and after graduation, I came to the US and was given the privilege of working with a textile company in Los Angeles for more than 23 years. I started in an accounting position and later was transferred to the production department and then eventually given the privilege to do sales as well. I have to drive 2 hours from home to go to work due to traffic and then going home another 2 hours. I didn’t have time with my family and spent most of my day at work except the weekends. Sometimes I missed my kid’s school activities because of work. After some time, I realized I could not do this anymore and I got so tired of driving so far. Year 2022, my husband and I decided to sell our house and move out of Santa Clarita. We decided to move to a smaller city near Sacramento, which is Lincoln. We sold our house and bought a new house fully paid with no mortgage obligations anymore. I told my boss the day when we sold our house and he allowed me to work remotely while still getting monthly salary and commission at the same time.
So starting 2022 , I worked remotely, and on the side, I was already starting my side hustle as content creation/influencer. With my content creation I actually started doing it in 2019 as just a hobby and slowly starting to learn the ways of making it as a business. At year 2021, I did get paid some already but only in 2022 that I start to earn money more. However 2023, since I was at home working remotely , I was also doing my side hustle at the same time. I was able to earn 70k gross total. I did all my best, invest in some courses and then last December since the textile industry business is slowly going down my boss informed me that he could not pay me monthly salary anymore and will just be commission-based only.
With my content creation business growing I feel I will be ok. So this year 2024, I am giving all my best and scale my business, put all my efforts to my business as a content creator and as a mompreneur. I feel God prepared me all this time and was in perfect timing. If I did not do remote work, if I have been doing still the old ways of just going to work. 9-5 every day, I will never grow my business. I will just be stuck at work and never will be prepared when the times when I will be laid off.
So changing to remote work .. actually eventually made me work and start my own company.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Raymin a mom of 3 girls from Northern California. A full time employee for 23 years in a textile industry and decided to change my life and prioritize my family and move out of Southern California and move to Sacramento area. Bought a fully paid house lived a simpler life and started to be a full-time creator influencer while being a mom and a wife.
As a content creator, what I share in my page is content to empower women to embrace simplicity, find joy, and inject fun into their lives by highlighting family and lifestyle. It is my passion to share to other moms that they can do the same thing as I did, They can prioritize their family, they can have life and enjoy being a mom.
One of the problems of being a content creator is it takes time and a lot of work to be successful. I started 2019 during the pandemic times and just started it as a hobby and for fun. Then later on I realized I enjoyed doing it and started to invest to learn the industry more. Investing in courses and do research is important . Being consistent and open-minded helped too and just have fun and you will get there!
I feel I still have to learn a lot of things in the industry. I am willing to learn more and more each day. My monthly goal is just to get at least 5k per month brand deals and my family will be fine. So far last year I made 70k gross as a content creator and my goal this year is to hit 100k !!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started making contents 2019 in instagram as a hobby and just for fun. just posting once a day , and was consistent every day. ! Then started other platfforms like twitter, tiktok and pinterest . It was hard to make contents everyday and most brands started to reach out to me and offer free products mostly free no paid yet. I accepted it since I feel getting free products will help me learn how to take photos and make content so I can tag the brand . I also started watching youtube on how to’s , did a lot of reading and invested in some classes eventually to learn more.
When I did all those work, my account grew and I began to learn the how to’s and then brands began reaching out to me and began to pay me . I remember I have to learn things during nighttimes since I work full time during the day I have to shoot my content on the weekends and then plan them out and then post it one day at a time during the week.
My advice for those starting out is just be consistent , try to learn and do research and keep practicing make contents and have fun, I believe you will succeed.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Yes from being a full time employee for 23 years , I decided to prioritize my family and moved out of Southern California. Moved to a simpler life , more family time and more freedom with my time and decided to work being a full time content creator.
