Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raymi Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Raymi , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk I’ve ever taken was to go against the grain of what everyone else believed I should be doing with my life. There seems to be a standard trajectory for children as they develop. It usually involves high school, college, either more college, and or securing a job to pay back any loans or to start their life. I followed this plan until I couldn’t take it anymore, and it just did not sit right with who I am as a person I decided to follow my own path, and dive deeper into my Artistry, there are ups and downs and anything you do but this risk was the best one to date because I am so happy doing what I love.
Raymi , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My friends often referred to me as the gill of many traits. I do hair, nails, paint, dance, rap, sing, write, Creative direct, and a few other things that I’m still developing. Through these channels I encourage and inspire others.
In the beauty industry, I’ll help clients to feel like their best selves. And in music my only hope is to continue to be inspired and inspire others.
I believe what says me apart from others is my authenticity and my resilience through any challenges I face. I strive to uncover the truth of my being and emotions to better understand myself, and relate to others. There are so many people who allow fear to control their lives, and it simply has no place here.
It’s good to remember that stars can’t shine without darkness. This serves as a reminder that there are light and dark forces, but we always have the ability to choose what we give power to, choose wisely.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Always believe in yourself and your abilities, confidence is key. It’s really important to surround yourself with team members who can uplift you and remind you of the mission when you are not at your best or fall short. Those times will come so choose your team wisely. You are a reflection of your circle.
Have you ever had to pivot?
And growth is not always a linear process and that’s why the term “ growing pains” exist because it’s not always comfortable. But what is not growing is dead so it’s really important to continue to grow. Anyway, I brought this up because there have been times in my career where I’d outgrown a space or belief but for security, I did not want to move. I had to pivot because my unwillingness to move, even though I had outgrown, the space, was causing sadness, and for me to be extremely uncomfortable internally. Once I finally face my fears of the unknown, I realize it was the best thing for me, and had wondered what took me so long!
