We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Raylynne Perez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Raylynne below.
Raylynne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have always been passionate about promotions and marketing. Working in an industry where we not only get to support the arts and film, but also get to bring awareness to amazing film, TV, and Theatre productions has truly been the most fun I have ever had at work. I have been doing this type of work since I was 13. When i was younger I would email bands that I loved to ask how I could help them promote their shows when they came to town. Next thing you know I was getting posters and swag mailed to me to distribute. As I got older I I started working with some indie marketing companies and doing local movie promotions and just was fascinated by the creativity that would go into the campaigns they put together. That feeling has never gone away for me. The excitement to see what they can bring to the masses next.
Raylynne, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I run Houston Film Fanatics. Basically we are an entertainment group that loves to share movie, TV, theatre and events with our audiences. We regularly offer interviews with actors and other creatives via out YouTube. We share links where people can RSVP for free movie screenings and promotions. We do giveaways for swag and offer movie reviews. What I have always liked about our group is we try to stay pretty down to earth. Even when it comes to interviews or reviews we are looking at these through the eye of just your average entertainment goer. Not every film or production is going to have some big deep meaning and change your life, some are just there for a fun escape and we acknowledge that. We are pop culture fans like a lot of you and intent to keep it that way.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Being open-minded is key to this. Right now we are constantly pulled in so many directions for our attention so it is easy to only keep your interest in small familiar buckets. But there may be a whole world of entertainment out there that you wouldn’t have dreamed that you loved until you branch out and try it. One of the things that always surprises me with this line of work is going to see an advance screening for a movie that I 100% did not want to see and walking out going “Wow, that was incredible.” It is refreshing and it constantly reminds me to keep an open mind because you never know when something new will be the unexpected surprise you didn’t know you needed.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
We have been around since 2011. There have been ups and downs and other groups that have come along. I think the fact that we stay consistent with what we do has been the thing that has kept us around all these years. That an a general love for the arts and entertainment. I aren’t doing this for financial gain, I do this because I love it. Genuinely. Covid really put a damper on a lot of what we used to do when everything shut down but that hasn’t stopped us and we keep moving ahead and looking for different elements to bring to our followers.
