We recently connected with Raya Dize and have shared our conversation below.
Raya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I believe the term “success” is being misunderstood. Often, when we contemplate success, our minds immediately gravitate towards wealth, status, and material possessions. We sometimes overlook the fact that inner success is much more important. Qualities such as self-harmony, inner peace, honesty, and self-control hold profound importance.
I mention this because when we attain a goal or fulfill our most cherished dreams, we often experience a sense of emptiness afterward. Why is that? The answer lies in our tendency to neglect our inner selves—the elements that genuinely contribute to our happiness and wholeness.
So, you may wonder, what is success in my opinion?
I believe it’s all about that inner fulfillment—being true to yourself and others, treating people with respect. That feeling is priceless.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a singer-songwriter. I stand as a pioneer in the realm of conscious Hip-Pop music—a genre that fuses the rhythmic essence of pop with the profound depth of hip-hop, cinematic elements , delivering deep, meaningful messages.
This genre reflects who I am, blending my classical piano background with my journey as a hip-hop dancer who’s overcome various life hurdles, regardless of my age.
Why did I get into this kind of music? I’ve got this strong urge to make people question their life and get out of the box we used to live in. I do my best to keep it real and authentic in my lyrics, sharing my own journey – the ups and downs, the travels, dealing with bullies, facing rejection, and a whole lot more. My main goal is to connect with my audience and let them know they’re not alone in their struggles and bring people together.
In my music, I explore a range of thought-provoking themes like family dynamics, karma, societal norms, authenticity, and the courage to stay true to one’s path despite the pressures to conform.
I’m a big believer in surrendering to a higher plan and having faith in yourself – it’s a way of showing respect to something bigger than us.
Right now, I’m working on an album, called “ Q&A with God” , where I share my conversations with God and something I believe in. I talk about my journey, always on the move, overcoming obstacles and tragedies, and always keeping the faith in the greater good.
Sound healing also holds a significant place in my life. As a certified sound healer, I blend that practice into my music. Healing people through sound is my main goal.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One important thing we should let go of is all the stuff we’ve been taught to be who we’re not. I mean, from the time we’re born, we’re told how to talk, how to express ourselves, and how to fit into society’s mold. But really, it’s more about peeling away those layers that aren’t really us and getting back to being our true selves.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Like many other artists, I used to crave attention, popularity, and the need to prove my worth. However, my perspective shifted when I began to quiet my ego and recognized that there are far more significant things in life than feeding my own ego.
