We were lucky to catch up with Rawle Harding recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Rawle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I am currently working on a meaningful project right now it’s my new body of music that I plan to release next year early in 2024. This project means so much to me because it’s the first time I’m peeling back more layers of myself and really being vulnerable and raw.
I found it is super important to create and work on projects that are meaningful to me as an artist. One thing I always strive for is authenticity. Being authentic is one of the most important things to me in life, I find that it keeps me grounded as an individual. I use my authentic self to write and record music that comes from a real place.
My goal is to put meaning in everything I do in addition to recording songs that other people will relate to and somehow move them. There is such a good fulfilled feeling I get from knowing I have worked on meaningful projects.
Rawle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an artist and singer-songwriter first, music has always been my love and passion. At the same time I am an entrepreneur I have this drive for business and building things from scratch and growing it into something big and beautiful.
I started in the music industry while I was still in high school as an intern at an independent record label. I learned much about the business of music there and went on to intern at an artist management company. I initially at first did not believe that my own abilities were good enough to put out or share my own music so I opted to work in the business as a music executive.
I have worked with many top rappers and singers along the way however, I was finally confident to give my own dream and music a chance and professionally started recording and released my first ever single in 2015 titled Alone. I am super happy I did because I have been making so much progress as an independent artist since. I have built up my music streams to over one million plus around the world and I am currently working on my next project with major Grammy-nominated producers in the music industry.
Being an independent artist with my music executive training and education has allowed me to also feed my entrepreneurial spirit and I started my own business where I can consult for other businesses in music and even artists. As well as operating another business in real estate.
I have been able to create really great music that has gained me my own fan base it’s still small but growing rapidly, especially in Europe which I am really excited about. I am super proud of my music and some of the artists and producers I have been blessed to work with so far. I also am proud of myself for just following my own dreams it has been rough a lot of the time but also equally fulfilling and rewarding when I hit my goals.
I want people to know that I am authentic and that I care about the work I do for myself and the work I do that will help others. My brand is always gonna strive to be authentic and real, I definitely am looking to move through life doing the best I can to offer service to others whether that’s through my music and being an entertainer or as an entrepreneur doing good respectful business deals with other companies and individuals.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn having an EGO. Now do not get me wrong our egos are necessary to a point but if we allow our Ego to go unchecked then we end up becoming unteachable and arrogant and hard to work with and may even treat people around us or our supporters badly.
I had to unlearn this concept I had in my head that there is going to come a day when I know it all. Working to the level of being professional and skilled at something is important and a person should feel super accomplished and confident in their abilities and knowledge.
However, remaining humble is key, meaning that it’s not always about being right there are multiple routes and ways to do and accomplish success, and sometimes it’s okay to share and help others without being the center of attention and sometimes is good just to help people because you can not because you have something to gain.
However, it’s important to remain humble because growth never stops, and even when one may have so much success and accomplishments be kind to treat everyone with respect, and always know you can learn from anyone and should be open to new perspectives that may be relevant to you.
Have you ever had to pivot?
There have been so many times I have had to shift and pivot in business, career, and especially in life. A life pivot that took so long for me to make was pivoting away from bad friends and even some family. I was always so loyal for a lot of my life to the wrong friends and some family. I use to want to please the people I cared about even if it meant that I had to be miserable or became hateful of myself.
I wanted to pursue my goals and dreams but if the people around me said something negative or were not supportive about what I expressed I wanted, I would give up on it, and in return, I didn’t realize I began to resent myself subconsciously. I started to tell myself and believe I was not good enough and that I was regular and that I may never figure out what to do in life and I was afraid of becoming a failure. This made me not even try hard or at all and I was just going through life a little dead inside.
It took a while but eventually, I started to realize the people around me did not make me feel good and one day I had a realization I did not have anyone around me that truly cared about me and wanted the best for me. I began to distance myself and remove myself from certain friend groups.
This took me years to successfully do but once I started to I found the courage to begin setting goals and achieving them and building back up my confidence to go after my dreams. Along the journey, I started attracting like-minded people who became better friends and better support systems for me. I lost my fear of failure and realized failing at things is a part of the journey as long as I’m turning those failures into lessons to learn from and make me stronger then I would become a winner. As long as I never give up and stay consistent I can really achieve anything I decide to invest myself in.
