We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rawhoney.. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with RAWHONEY. below.
Hi RAWHONEY., thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Our upcoming EP, “insane from exposure” has easily been the most meaningful piece of work we’ve created so far, not only from an artistic perspective, but from a personal one as well! This body of work challenged us in such new ways, and following up our debut EP “how could life be pretty without you?” presented us with a choice in regards to how exactly we go about expanding our sonic pallet and the expectations of our current audience.
Lyrically, this record is much darker than the previous one, and discusses topics such substance abuse, relational abuse, the predatory nature of the entertainment industry, and the overall degradation of my adolescent perspective. Musically, it expands upon our already established Pop-Rock sound cultivated in 2024, and pushes the songs into territory that’s somehow both more mainstream and heavier at the same time! On one of these songs, we tune all the way down to double drop G, while another track is in drop G#. We also collaborated with Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens on the song “no one really cares!” and his artistic support on that song has been incredible. It’s an honor to have him as our first feature!

RAWHONEY., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
RAWHONEY. formed in Nashville, TN in 2023, when we released our debut single “more messed up.” Our first endeavor as a band was much more of an indie pop/rock EP. We won the Belmont University 2024 Battle of the Bands after a few shows in town, and began writing our 2nd EP this past summer. The project, titled “insane from exposure” includes a few songs produced by Carson Hogan of The Wldlfe, while the rest were co-produced by our own Ryan O’Connor and Mitch Gorman. We finished this project during our last semester at Belmont University, and found it was a great way to tie together our creative aspirations as a collective while maintaining and expanding our artistic integrity and vision. We’re still a pretty new band, but have a feeling this project will become one of the staples in our discography that establishes us as an act worth adequately remembering.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
More than anything, our band is dedicated to creating boundary pushing art that expresses our own unique interactions with the world around us and opens our listeners eyes a little bit more. We love pushing the boundaries of our instruments, writing lyrically reflective and psychologically informative songs, but most importantly, having fun while creating art. Nick Ubillos of Sweet Fruits said it best – “We’re all gonna die, so we’ve gotta do what we love.”

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
As a group, we love the direction Periphery has taken with their expansion on the art they create through studio documentaries, so we decided to the same thing for this record. We filmed it ourselves, and this record was written and created over the course of 2 years, so we didn’t capture every single moment, but were lucky enough to document the creation of songs like “separate,” “no one really cares!” and “the way you want your house.” This approach seems to build immense value with listeners, especially those who also create music! There’s something so special about seeing a body of work you love be created in real time through content, and felt it was super important to contribute to our audience in this way.
