Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ravit Solomon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, Ravit thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?

I’m working on an art exhibition called Starlett. This project started in Winter of 2017, when I first discovered that the flamingo is my spirit animal. With my spirit animal in mind, I thought to myself, “how cool would it be to float on a flamingo pool floatie, looking at dancing flamingos? What if there is a planet that is full of flamingos?” Sitting with this vision eventually led to discovery and birth of the first planet painting in my series, Flamingo Planet.

It did not take long until my main character with the Starlett exhibition, Starlett herself, was born. Starlett is a female astronaut figure, wearing an astronaut helmet , and has color-changing skin depending on the planet she is traveling to. Each painting is a chapter within her journey, and the viewer is encouraged to dive deeper into a cosmic space within their imagination.

My background in animation, and inspiration from the artist Gorillaz has inspired this series. My goal is to create art installations related to the story of Starlett, inspire the viewers to connect to their imagination, believe that everything is possible, and even maybe exist somewhere else other than Earth in the large spectrum of this universe.

Ravit, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m a visual artist with a degree in media arts and animation, specializing in digital and traditional painting. My goal is to animate my paintings and help other artists to animate their art as well. When I worked for an animation studio in the past, a previous client of mine requested an animation of his comic book. This client’s project opened the doors to me striving to animate and create 2D art.

My passion is to help clients think outside the box and come up with creative branding solutions, make ads, content, NFT, and artwork for musicians, yogis, coaches, and other creators who are looking to add uniqueness, and eye-catching content into their brand.
Being part of the Burning Man community has also inspired me to create interactive art. It is without a doubt that this art and the culture of Burning Man brings community together and encourages connection through art exploration.

I’m proud of my curiosity to explore different mediums that encourages expressing myself and bringing this knowledge together to create art in full spectrum. From making music, painting, and animating, my goal is to tap into all the five senses and bring it to life through experiences that bring community together and inspire people to explore more.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

There is so much society can do to best support artists. However, one step we can take to create a big impact is providing the streets as a canvas for artists. Creating more art installations in the streets will add more color and playfulness into a community’s life. Some urban cities in the U.S. have more art than others, but I believe this is something we can budget more into our lives. Whether it splashes of art on benches at bus stops, wall murals, electrical power boxes, this provides a thriving and creative ecosystem amongst society. Having more freedom to express artwork without the constant struggle of city approval, or “legality” of what some consider “vandalism,” is the topic of discussion society must take in order to continue to support local artists. When it comes to art installations, having interactive and non-interactive spaces in the street can provide a space for connection.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Each song I write, painting I paint, and doodle I draw is like brain dumping my thoughts, feelings, and emotions into a journal. Looking back at my creations brings memories and insight into my creative growth as well as my growth as a human being. It is rewarding to channel my journey through creative expression, share it with people, and have those memories for life.
