We were lucky to catch up with Raven Waits recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Raven, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

I had been seeing lots of videos surfacing on social media of customized cases referred to as ‘junk cases’, so seeing all those videos made me want one for myself, I researched and found it would be more cost effective to make my own. I ordered some charms to start off with and I got with one of my friends and we made our own phone cases. I had fun doing and I wanted to do more! So days later, I made a case for my iPad and I posted them on my social media, I really didn’t think anyone would be interested, but a lot of my friends have ordered cases from me. Amidst all this I was let go from my main job so I started to make more cases as a result and I have been making them ever since.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am a 22 year old woman from Fort Worth, Texas! I specialize in custom cases whether it be for your phone, iPad, etc. What started as a little d.i.y. project with a friend turned into a business for me and it is something that I genuinely enjoy doing. I rarely come across any issues but if that were to happen it can easily be resolved! I will remake anything I need to or replace charms. I am most proud of how my little business has grown only in a matter of months and I hope to keep growing and venture out to provide other services on top of what I already offer.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

Referrals, most of the orders I have done were for friends and they are always sending people my way!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

Honestly, the time I started was around my birthday so I took the money I received for that and used it to order the items and materials I needed to jumpstart everything and it has grown from there.
