We recently connected with Raven Richards and have shared our conversation below.
Raven, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I always loved music and naturally studied it my whole life without knowing. As a child, when my mom and aunts would play music in the car or while cleaning the house I would listen and later sing my own version of those same songs for hours. As a child I remembered every lyric and ad lib of songs very easily.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am hypnotic singer songwriter Raven Richards. I released my first solo song in 2021 after being featured on a Nappy Roots album in 2020. I practiced singing and songwriting for 4 years everyday so naturally in 2020 I was ready to start sharing my music with the world. I sing all genres about all topics.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I’m learning lol so it’s fun because I LOVE learning new things. My NFT research has been one of my side projects I have been studying for over 1 year now. I study a little at least once a week. I’m taking my time because sometimes I find it boring but other times I find it liberating to think I can share my music with my fans and they own a % of it with me too. Since I’m so communal, I love that. Learning anything makes me feel powerful so I’m happy I can grasp what I do know so far. I bought into 3 NFT’s so far and I have a couple wallets but I still want to know much more.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Be nicer to artists and stop trying to force them to define or sell their art. Let them create freely. Understand we are all artists and nothing separates us so when someone wants to build a body of consistent art appreciate them for simply sharing. Don’t compete with them. Pay them their price or leave them alone until you can afford to lol. Don’t tell them their value is too high. You have no idea what it took for them to create and share.
