Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raven “Ray$av” Ancar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Raven “Ray$av”, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
One of the biggest things my mom did right was choosing to walk alongside me as both a parent and a business partner. Instead of forcing me into a traditional path or doubting my dreams, she believed in my vision early on, not just as her daughter but as a creator and entrepreneur. That support gave me the confidence to fully pursue my passions in music, business, and now consulting. A great example of this is the podcast we started together, Momager and Me. It is a reflection of our real relationship. She is not just my mom; she is my manager, my stylist, my sounding board, and my accountability partner. Through building the podcast together, I realized how much her guidance shaped my approach to authenticity, professionalism, and trusting the process. She taught me that success is not just about talent. It is about work ethic, communication, and staying true to who you are. Her influence shows up daily in how I run my company, Short For $avage, and how I approach new projects, partnerships, and even setbacks. Having a parent who believed in nurturing my talents and building with me has been the foundation of my career and why I am able to move with so much intention today.
Raven “Ray$av”, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Raven Ancar, and I am a multi-hyphenate creative, entrepreneur, and consultant. I entered the music industry first as an artist, producer, and songwriter under the name Ray$av. Over time, my journey expanded into the business side of the industry as I realized the importance of artists having control, strategy, and ownership over their work. I founded Short For $avage, LLC, a company that manages everything from music production and publishing to marketing, merchandise, and label services for independent artists. I now also offer consulting services for artists, entrepreneurs, and creatives who want to build sustainable brands and protect their intellectual property. Through strategy sessions, deep-dive coaching, and business templates such as contracts, budget sheets, and marketing plans, I help clients launch projects, organize their business structures, and move toward their goals with clarity and confidence. What sets me apart is that I bring a 360-degree perspective. I have been the artist, the business owner, and now the strategist. I combine creative thinking with business knowledge and a deep understanding of how important it is to stay authentic while building something real. I also prioritize education and empowerment, especially for Black women and creatives who have historically been left out of crucial industry knowledge. One of my proudest accomplishments is the Momager and Me podcast I co-created with my mother, who is also my manager. Our show highlights our real journey of working together in the entertainment industry, the lessons we have learned, and the importance of trust and accountability. It is a true reflection of the values that guide my brand: authenticity, transparency, and building with intention. At the core, I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that my work is rooted in empowerment. Whether you come to me for music, strategy, legal insights, or creative consulting, my mission is to help you move smarter, stay authentic, and own your greatness every step of the way.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is the ability to turn my ideas, experiences, and emotions into something that impacts others. Whether it is through my music, my consulting work, or even the conversations my mom and I share on our Momager and Me podcast, creating allows me to connect with people on a deeper level. It is powerful to know that something I made can inspire someone, help them feel seen, or give them the tools they need to move forward in their own journey. It is also rewarding to have full ownership over my creativity. I get to build a legacy on my own terms, one that reflects authenticity, resilience, and intention. That sense of freedom and impact is what keeps me passionate about everything I do.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One story that really illustrates my resilience is when I decided to fully invest in my music career while building my business, Short For $avage, at the same time. I had just graduated, was balancing multiple jobs, and still committed to creating, producing, and releasing my first project independently. There were so many moments when it would have been easier to quit, when funding was tight, when I was exhausted, or when things did not move as fast as I hoped. Instead of giving up, I leaned into the challenges. I taught myself how to produce, market, and manage my releases. I researched contracts, built my own team, and trusted my long-term vision even when the short-term felt uncertain. That same resilience carried into launching my consulting services and creating the Momager and Me podcast with my mom. Every step required me to bet on myself, stay disciplined, and keep moving even when the results were not immediate. That season of my life taught me that resilience is not just about surviving hard moments. It is about staying committed to your purpose even when no one else can see the full picture yet
