Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raven Magee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Raven, appreciate you joining us today. What’s one of the most important lessons you learned in school?
I attended The Art Institute of Atlanta and received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Fashion Marketing and Management in 2021. When I was in high school I decided I wanted to study fashion because it was the career field I wanted to be in. I knew I had a passion and calling for it. A lot of people think going to college for creative degrees are a waste of time, but it’s not. If you want to learn more about your passion take a course or not even just going to college but getting help will help you in the long run. I’ve learned so much about the fashion industry and I didn’t know fashion had many outlets and different careers. I don’t regret going at all.
Raven, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My brand FaithAnddFashion is a online women’s boutique that sells clothing and accessories. I created this brand for my love of fashion and wanting to help others discover there true fashion style. I came up with this brand name by #1 my love for GOD and my faith journey. Then, I added fashion because its my passion. I then added a extra “d” at the word and for a little razzle dazzle. However, I’m most proud of actually starting a business and sticking to my word. Throughout college and high school I always wanted a brand and finally December 2021 was the year I took that leap of faith. I want to expand and grow my brand over the years. I have learned so much already just from having this boutique for some months now. My goal is to make women feel confident and beautiful in the clothes that they wear. I also want to help people step out the box with clothing like never being afraid to dress up and try something new.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I currently sell on my own personal website. I use the company Wix. I feel like having your own website you can be more creative and selective. I would say it is more work because you have to put way more thought in it especially if your creating it yourself or hiring someone to do the website for you.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I funded my business by first figuring out what I needed to start. I was trying to have a lot when I first started which is also costly. So, I then had to think and take a step back and worry about the pritority first. I started off by paying for the business fees then the business supplies. Then, I bought products which in all costed me $600-700 dollars. I learned from previous experiences not to buy a whole bunch of products so you see how they sell first. I say breaking it up and not buying everything at once helped me a lot. Also, knowing my launch day prepared me to planning with what I needed. When it comes to marketing I did most of it through social media which was free when I first launched.
