We were lucky to catch up with Raven Lilith Carrillo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Raven, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If I could go back in time, I think I would have liked to start my creative career sooner. I began making music on my phone in 2020 when I was 14 years old. At that time, I was just a teenager trying to find a way to express my emotions and deal with the challenges of growing up being socially awkward. Music became my way to express myself, and it helped me go through those tough times.
Starting earlier might have given me more time to develop my skills and experiment with different styles. I could have explored more genres and perhaps even collaborated with other artists sooner. It would have been interesting to see how my music would have evolved with a few more years of experience.
However, I also believe that everything happens for a reason. Starting my career when I did allowed me to connect with my audience in a very genuine and raw way. My experiences and emotions at that time shaped my music and made it what it is today. If I had started later, I might not have had the same level of authenticity and relatability in my songs.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello! My name is Raven Lilith, but people might know me better as VeucroX. I’m a Mexican rapper, singer, and songwriter, and I started my musical journey in 2020 when I was just 14 years old. Music has always been a huge part of my life, and I began creating my own tracks on my phone as a way to express my emotions and navigate through the challenges of growing up.
My music is a blend of various genres and styles, and I love experimenting with different sounds to create something unique and abstract. I believe that what sets me apart from others is my willingness to push boundaries and explore new territories in music. I don’t like to confine myself to one specific genre or style; instead, I let my emotions and experiences guide my creativity.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the connection I’ve been able to build with my audience. My music resonates with people because it’s raw, genuine, and relatable. I pour my heart and soul into every track, and I think that authenticity is something my fans appreciate.
For those who may not be familiar with my work, I want you to know that my music is more than just entertainment; it’s a form of expression and a way to connect with others on a deeper level. I aim to create songs that not only sound good but also evoke emotions and provoke thought.
In terms of what I offer, my primary focus is on creating music that speaks to people and helps them feel understood. Whether you’re going through a tough time or just need something to vibe to, I hope my songs can provide some comfort and inspiration.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the profound connection I can build with people through my music. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about knowing that my songs resonate with listeners on a deep, emotional level. When someone tells me that my music helped them through a tough time or made them feel understood, it makes all the hard work and dedication worth it.
Creating music is not just about entertainment for me; it’s a form of expression and a way to share my experiences and emotions with the world. I love experimenting with different genres and styles, pushing boundaries, and exploring new territories in music. This creative freedom allows me to continuously evolve as an artist, and that journey of self-expression and growth is something I cherish deeply.
getting messages from people saying your song helped them go thru a hard time is the most amazing thing ever.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn was that vulnerability is a weakness. Growing up, I always thought that showing my emotions and being open about my struggles would make me seem weak or less capable. I believed that I had to put on a tough exterior to protect myself and be taken seriously.
The backstory to this lesson is rooted in my early experiences with music.
However, as I began to share my music and connect with listeners, I realized that my vulnerability was actually my greatest strength. People resonated with the raw emotion and honesty in my songs. It made my music relatable and impactful. I learned that being open about my struggles and emotions not only helped me heal but also created a deeper connection with my audience.
Unlearning the idea that vulnerability is a weakness has allowed me to embrace my true self and create music that is authentic and meaningful. It’s a lesson that has shaped my journey as an artist and continues to inspire me every day.
