We were lucky to catch up with Raven Jackson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Raven thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Yes, I am generally happier as a business owner—but that doesn’t mean it’s without its doubts or difficult moments. The freedom, the ability to build something on my own terms, and the fulfillment that comes from seeing my vision come to life all bring me a deep sense of purpose. But there are days when the weight of responsibility makes me wonder what it would be like to have a regular 9-to-5 again.
I remember one specific evening, not long ago, when this thought hit me hard. It was around 11:30 PM, and I was still at my desk, staring at a spreadsheet that wouldn’t balance, with emails piling up and an early meeting looming the next morning. I hadn’t had dinner. My phone buzzed with a message from a friend—something about happy hour and a spontaneous weekend trip. I looked around my home office, which felt more like a second prison than a dream workspace at that moment, and I thought: “Wouldn’t it be nice to clock out at 5, leave the stress behind, and just live?”
The idea of having weekends back, of not being the one who has to solve every problem, was tempting. I imagined myself in a job where the paycheck came like clockwork and someone else bore the final burden of decision-making.
But then I paused. I reminded myself that the stress I was feeling was tied to a project I truly cared about. That late-night spreadsheet wasn’t just a task—it was part of something I built. I realized that while the lows of business ownership are real and sometimes exhausting, the highs are uniquely rewarding. I get to decide what matters. I get to take risks and reap the rewards—or learn from the failure.
That night, I closed the laptop and took a walk. I didn’t solve everything right away, but I came back with a clearer perspective. Yes, a regular job might bring stability, but this path brings me growth. It challenges me constantly and keeps me deeply engaged. So, even when I flirt with the idea of going back to a “normal job,” I always come to the same conclusion: this is exactly where I’m meant to be.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
“When I first started sharing on social media, my goal wasn’t just to build an audience—it was to build trust. I work closely with post-surgery plastic surgery patients, so I knew people were looking for reassurance, education, and real-life recovery stories they could relate to. I started by consistently posting informative content: tips for recovery, what to expect post-surgery, and before-and-after transformations (always with patient consent). Over time, I began incorporating FAQs, patient testimonials, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the recovery process, which helped humanize the journey and build connection.
For anyone starting out, my advice is to be authentic, consistent, and patient-focused. Don’t aim for perfection—aim for value. Speak to the concerns your audience actually has. Use video when you can—it helps people see your personality and builds trust faster. And always engage: answer questions, respond to comments, and be part of the conversation. That’s how real relationships—and a real community—form online.”

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
Absolutely—one moment that really tested me came during the early months of the pandemic. Elective surgeries were suddenly paused, and since I work closely with post-op plastic surgery patients, our entire revenue stream was threatened overnight. Our cash flow was tight, and we were just two payroll cycles away from being unable to pay our small team.
It was a moment of panic—but also of clarity. I immediately started renegotiating contracts, paused non-essential spending, and reached out to clients for prepaid packages with added value to secure short-term cash flow. We also shifted quickly to offer virtual post-op support and recovery planning sessions, which kept our patient pipeline warm and brought in some income.
It was scary, but we pulled through. That experience taught me the importance of agility, clear communication, and taking decisive action—even when you’re unsure of the outcome.
