Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raven Herschel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Raven, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I feel like I started later than most makeup artists, I was in my late twenties but looking back at my life I think it was divine timing and I would not have been ready if I had started earlier.
I believe beauty is an energy and a vibration where my work flows through more effortlessly and my connection to it only continues to deepen over the years.
Raven, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an accomplished Makeup Artist of 10 years from California and relocated to OKC almost two years ago. I am most known for my eye-work, glamorous glowy looks and makeup transformations for editorial shoots and special events! I have a versatile range in my work but full-glam has always had my heart.
I got started in makeup by wanting to actually learn how to do it- the right way. I had so much energy and passion for makeup I did not know how to control it in my young-adult life. I never saw my own beauty back then and went a little overboard trying to find it. I needed to ground myself into what I now know was the fuel to start my life’s work.
In 2013 I enrolled in The Academy of Makeup and Fashion of Los Angeles and that’s really where my life changed as it gave me the confidence to pursue Makeup Artistry.
I think what sets me apart is how my journey with beauty is personal one and has become a talent, feeling and vibration to me over the years. Makeup Artistry is my ability to embellish what is already there; both physically and energetically. When I work on a client, I usually channel colors they love intuitively and help remind them of their beauty; as women we sometimes forget our beauty and power!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Helping women feel their most beautiful and bringing the beauty I see to the surface is so fulfilling and heals a part of me too. Many tear-up, feel shocked (in the best way) and hug me. it’s a connection my heart won’t ever forget.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It was during Covid that my family and I decided to leave California and move to Oklahoma. However, I still had dozens of weddings booked in California after our moving date and I did not have the heart to cancel on my Brides as many of their weddings were previously cancelled and rescheduled during Covid. I ended up booking all my airfare and traveled back-and-forth every week the first four months of living in Oklahoma. It was very challenging mentally and physically while trying to adjust to our new life here. I have zero regrets though and was so happy to be there for them!
