We were lucky to catch up with Raven Grant recently and have shared our conversation below.
Raven, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My mom is, without a doubt, my hero. Raised by a single parent, I witnessed firsthand how, even through the toughest and darkest times, anything is possible with God. She was the epitome of turning lemons into lemonade, always hustling and never letting her circumstances stand in the way of what needed to be done and giving us the life she thought we deserved. That same unwavering drive has been instilled in me and has significantly influenced my journey into photography.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello! My name is Raven, and I’m a 31-year-old Georgia native and the owner of Raven G Photography. I currently serve clients predominantly in Colorado and Georgia. Throughout my life, I’ve always had a passion for cameras and capturing moments. After purchasing my first DSLR in college, I conducted my very first maternity session. With a Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Mass Media, I initially believed I couldn’t build a career as a creative and chose to teach instead. I spent several years in education, even earning a Master’s in Montessori Education.
After having my second son, I decided to stay home and embrace the precious moments I was missing out on with my first son due to work. It was during this time that I rediscovered my love for photography. I came across an amazing camera on sale and made the decision to invest in my passion and build my photography business, creating a life that would allow me to do what I love while spending more time with the people I cherish.
Fast forward to today, and I’m honored to capture the beauty of maternity, children, families, and creative concepts. My favorite part of photography is helping clients bring their unique ideas to life and capturing their true essence in an image. What sets me apart is my genuine care for my clients. I go above and beyond to ensure they receive the service and outcomes they’ve always dreamed of.
I have an incredibly hard time talking about myself so I will give this a shot. I am incredibly proud of what I’ve accomplished so far even though I am not where I thought I would be, the younger me would be proud. Stepping out on faith and trusting God’s plan for me has been life-changing. I believe my talent is a gift from God, and my business is dedicated to serving and uplifting His people.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is the opportunity to help and serve others while capturing meaningful moments. Additionally, this career allows me to spend more quality time with my family, which is something I truly cherish.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me, the most effective strategy in growing my clientele has been consistently posting content that showcases the services I offer, along with investing in ads. The ads have allowed me to reach potential clients that I might not have connected with through organic posts alone. This has greatly expanded my reach and helped me grow my business.
