We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Raven Forrester . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Raven below.
Raven, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My mother and I co-own OdeliaDesign. Odelia is the first name of my grandmother, although she went by her middle name. We were trying to think of a great name for the business before we launched, and I felt that that was a way to honor my grandmother and it fell in line with our mother & daughter owned business.

Raven, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My mother and I used to make our own party decorations, going back as far as my Sweet 16 party. In 2021, we were thinking about starting a business together to showcase something we are both good at. I had already owned a photo studio and purse boutique in the Virgin Islands, and my mother has a specialty cake business. We planned on offering handmade party decor but it evolved into handmade home decor.
The first item that I made for the business were a pair of decorative champagne glasses that someone purchased for their wedding. My mom started to make beautiful floral centerpieces and other home decor items. We make items for every season, holiday, and special occasion. Most items are one-of-a-kind or custom ordered by clients. We have many items available on Etsy.
We are happy for every single order we receive, and we are proud of every 5 star review. We love getting positive feedback from customers, and we appreciate our repeat customers.
We want our potential clients and customers to know that when they order from OdeliaDesign, their item will be one-of-a-kind, handmade with care, and will add beauty to any room in your home. We also accept custom requests.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
From my previous business experience, I’ve always utilized social media to attract clients and customers. I run the social media (Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest) for OdeliaDesign. I frequently run ads to target online shoppers who like Wayfair, Homegoods, and At Home. Also having our items available on Etsy helps bring in potential customers that already use Etsy.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
We use Etsy to sell most of our items. We love it! It is easy to upload items and set up shipping. Customers can easily message us to ask questions about an item, and write reviews. The only negative is the fees charged when a sale is made.
