We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Raven Cornwall a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Raven thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned my artistry skills 10 years ago by consistently watching creatives on YouTube and investing in Makeup Classes to improve my skills and learning other artist techniques. When becoming an artist practice makes perfect so I wouldn’t want to speed the process. Makeup trends are always changing I believe it’s important to keep up with the latest trends and being knowledgeable about beauty products. The most essential skills are making sure the foundation matches your clients skin tone & blending everything together so that each client has a skin finish look. Obstacles that have stood in the way for me to learn more is COVID. I personally would love to attend a in-person makeup class to learn more about growing my clientele and even improve my artistry skills, and connect with other talented creatives but I have avoided being around large crowds and places due to COVID.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Raven and I am a Professional Makeup Artist in Austin, Texas. I am also a Financial Advisor assistant Monday-Friday. I have been providing makeup services since 2014. I got into the makeup industry when my hairdresser started referring me to her clients that had events that they were going to when I lived in Killeen. My goal as an artist is to make sure my clients feel and look beautiful with a soft skin finish application. What sets me apart from other artist is that every artist is different & unique in their own way. It’s important to find your niche. My niche is a radiant skin finish look.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to help make other women feel relaxed, confident and beautiful.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Because I am a MUA who doesn’t necessarily have a big following on social media I have set myself a few goals to build my clientele & network more in Austin. I recently collaborated with a phenomenal photographer & models. We came together and did a beauty shoot. I planned everything the makeup, hair, and outfit. I gathered my ideas from Pinterest and executed.
It was so much fun and being able to collaborate with other creatives was a fun experience!
