Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raul Ramirez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Raul, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents sacrificed much for my siblings and me. They were great providers, but I want to highlight something that my mom instilled in me. She always emphasized the importance of education, she said that no person will ever be able to take away your education.
I think that environment encouraged me to learn about a wide variety of subjects and to seek out educational experiences. I took advantage of travel opportunities offered at school, like going to Europe to study art history, and China to train in martial arts.
Learning about the world can help one learn more about the commonalities shared by every human. I appreciate my mom for instilling in me a passion for learning.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The passion for learning and experiencing new things lead me to Beijing, China one summer where I practiced kickboxing and wrestling. A training partner injured my knee during practice. I experienced sharp pain when I put weight on the knee. I was given an topical herbal patch to stick on my injured knee. I kept it on overnight and the pain was gone when I woke up the next day. I was able to keep training without taking time off.
This sparked my interest in learning Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine. after graduating from UCLA, I got my masters degree in Eastern medicine. I later earned my PhD and became a Licensed Acupuncturist. I also had the good fortune of interning at the best medical universities in South Korea. I currently have a private practice in West Los Angeles where I have helped countless people improve their health. I was even voted best Acupuncturist by the people of Culver City!
This whole time I kept training in various martial arts, including going to England to learn authentic Catch Wrestling in the Lancashire region where the style developed. I also make time to teach Wrestling and Kickboxing at UCLA, and online.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being a good, empathetic communicator is a major part in becoming a successful physician and coach. Research has shown that patients of doctors with good bedside manner have better outcomes. Coaches who have a more wholistic and empathetic approach to training tend to get better performances out of their athletes.
It appears that being able to help get your patient / athlete / client into the right mindset will enable them to achieve their goals.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Nowadays, more businesses need to have a social media presence. Knowledge is one thing, but being able to communicate to the masses effectively is a crucial art that business owners must learn.
Being able to tell a story where your prospective client can envision themselves improving their lives by using your service is your key to building a positive reputation in your niche.
I was able to build up a social media following with tens of thousands of followers and millions of views on YouTube. Many join my online coaching program. It all comes down to putting yourself out there and being the best communicator possible.
