We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rashida Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rashida below.
Rashida, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My mom had me young! My brothers and I are each a year apart. I remember my mom, grandma, and great grandma having to raise us. My mom worked so hard to provide for us, and in the mist of that she always raise me to go after what I want. She stood by my side with everything I did. I have three kids, I’ve moved out of town, quite jobs, and started 3 buisness and not once did my mother judge me in these endeavors I had. She always reminded me that I was enough and to keep being strong. I can do what ever I put my mind to.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Rashida Smith Founder and Owner of Peace & Love Doula Services. Proud mother of three beautiful formula and breastfeed children. With mutual understanding and experience with chosen methods of milk supply. I will go out of my way to assist anyone through the journey that is childbirth or breastfeeding.
For years Ive been wanting to become a doula but never had time until covid. One of the best things I did was quite my job and pursued my dreams. Starting a business during covid was not easy being that it had everyone on edge. The first year of my business, I took time to put my business out there, promote on social media, hand out business cards and things in that nature.
I am proud of where I’m at today with my business. Yes we have ups and downs and things don’t always go as planned, but stay consistent. Was meant for you to always be for you and your business.
I want women to know that you do deserve a Doula. You are very resilient and your bodies are made for this and to stay encourage. I do have openings the remainder of 2020 in my book and openings for 2023. If you have questions about what a doula is and what type of support we provide please message me.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely! I love kids! It’s something about watching a baby being born in this world that fascinates me. Not often do you see people get to pursue their dreams, and I’m just happy that I was able to make one of my dreams come true. Moms are so resilient and the fact that they are made to give birth. They are made to carry a child is what fascinates me the most, only because it’s so amazing how you can create something so small to grow so big.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that things don’t always happen the way you wanted to. I started my business literally in the mist of Covid. I just knew that I didn’t want to work a 9 to 5, I knew that I didn’t want to keep spending all my days missing opportunities of watching my kids grow up. When I started my business, I jumped head first not thinking about the possibilities of not getting any clients. As I look back on I am still excited that I decided to start my business and everything was a learning process. You just have to be patient and understanding with yourself and others.
