We recently connected with Rashida McGuire and have shared our conversation below.
Rashida, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The Name Creative Kids Learning was discovered in early 2020. A few months prior that I started creating learning boards within my community. The idea was to create something that’ll grab the child’s & parents’ eyes and will keep them engaged in learning inside and outside of the classroom. The learning boards consisted of one of the child’s favorite characters/themes, color, and whatever material the parent thought was necessary for the child. I noticed that I started to love creating learning boards and study tables so I meditated on a name. Creativity came from the creativity I put into the boards. Kids Learning came along because I work with children and the end goal is to assist the children with their learning development.
Rashida, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Rashida McGuire. The owner of Creative Kids Learning LLC. Creative Kids Learning started in 2019. Creating learning boards was first a hobby craft for me. One day I made a learning board for my nephew & decided to post my creativity on social media. I wasn’t expecting my art to blow up within a few minutes. Before I knew it many parents were messaging me requesting to get their child a learning board made. When I noticed that learning boards were HIGHLY requested, I added another product to my business they are study tables. Study tables are wood and they stand about 3ft tall. It is the same thing as a learning board but on a table & more durable. Learning boards & study tables are customizable to fit your child/ren’s needs.
I first started working in early childhood in 2011. I have been working In childcare since. Even though I have tried different jobs along the way I believe being an educator is my niche. Over the years working in childcare I started to think I was destined for this. I recently graduated from Bryant & Stratton College with an associate in applied science in early childhood education. I will be furthering my education so I am sure I have all the required credentials to open my learning center in a few years.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
In 2020 many upcoming business owners were hosting pop-up shops. I participated in a few which helped me connect with more educators in my community. It also uses social media such as Facebook, Instagram & TikTok. I must say using Instagram has helped me reach so many other states and educators outside of Michigan. My family has also helped me build my reputation by word of mouth. Lastly, working as an assistant in childcare has also played a part in building my reputation.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I love to help other entrepreneurs in any way I can. However, being extremely nice and allowing others to work and collaborate with you can be a hit or a miss. Well, I’m my situation I felt as if I was doing a great deed. I met a lady who wanted me to create a few products for her. As a businesswoman wanted to make sure.
I answered all of her questions regarding learning tools thoroughly. The entire time the lady who I spoke with was stealing all of my photos of my work and was using.
It was her own. All of the information I relayed to her she sent it to her parents as if it was her. This story taught me a lesson not to be so gullible. There are people out there who will steal your information.
