We recently connected with Rashad Todd and have shared our conversation below.
Rashad, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I completely wished I pursued my creative career full time earlier. However, there was obstacles I had to overcome, which made me take breaks. There were also many times of finding myself and knowing who I am, to be sure if the creative career was the route I wanted to take. In the beginning, I didn’t see the money in it and I love money ha-ha. I have been putting my all into my work and I notice that it is paying off. I have higher goals to reach, however, I am thankful for what I have accomplished thus far.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Thank you for this opportunity to open up and share myself with the audience. I am very grateful for this moment. My goal is to inspire others through sharing my experiences of being a creative.
Let’s start from the beginning. My name is Rashad Todd and I am an actor, model, brand ambassador, and all things creative. I also can be seen very soon on ABC for a new upcoming show that I cannot wait to share to with everyone.
I have been acting and modeling for some years now. As a creative it was not an easy process, however as I look at where I am now, I do not regret any of the ups and downs. People that are in the television and film industry know that opportunities may come fast, but at times can be very slow coming.
As an actor and model, it is important to network and build relationships as much as possible. I wish I had known sooner how important networking and building relationships is to an acting and modeling career. A friend recently told me, “It is not actually who you know but who knows you?” As you are networking, take classes in your field and continue to perfect your craft.
Once you continue to head in the direction of your dreams, I have learned that opportunities come to you from the universe that you would not have even expected. I remember a time when I was auditioning 4 to 5 times a week for a whole month, and I was not booking. However, within that same time frame, I got a call and booked a role for a series I did not even audition for. This came from networking, and staying focused on booking a role. In that moment, I learned to stay consistent, positive and humble when it comes to this industry. Everything is going to work itself out.
Before I continue sharing more insight, shout out to my parents, family, friends and followers for always supporting me and gassing me up, because we know gas isn’t cheap!!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing your work being recognized and inspiring others. When someone reaches out to me and tell me they are proud of my work, or explain how it inspires them, it reminds me that I am on track in living my life’s purpose. I especially enjoy when I can share knowledge to help someone else to reach success through my experiences, such as I am doing now by having this platform.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Oh my! Wow, uhmmm… building my audience was pretty challenging for me. I am going to keep it all the way honest, I used to get frustrated because I post a diverse of creativity. I would spend hours editing stylish videos, picking out the right song, and making sure the clips were synced to the music. Some of my posts are funny reels, fun pics, or involving my stylish clothing and I felt like I was not getting noticed.
I feel what has build my following was when I started meeting more people in person, making an effort to acknowledge every comment, and did my best to respond to messages. Responding to my following allowed me to connect with my audience. Next thing I know, I have thousands of followers. Also, doing a lot of interviews on different platforms helped.
So, for those trying to build a following, keep posting and try your best to engage with your followers.
Again, shout out to my followers!!
