We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rashad Terry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Rashad thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my own social media. It can be a very demanding part of running a business because social media actively changes every day. New requirements, criteria, and ways to operate are constantly introduced. Managing your own social media puts you in a position to constantly do research and dedicate time to its constant advancement.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

He says “ even your own personal beliefs about beauty are subject to a standard; even if it’s your own standard”.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by simply showing up. You don’t have to know all the rules but you have to be consistent and you have to show up. Every day I went live and engaged with my audience whether is was 5 or 50 people on the platform. There were even some days where no one was on and I showed up regardless. One of the most valuable pieces of advice I learned the hard way was even if no one is watching; eventually some one will watch so how I performed on the live when no one was on there watching with me is how I actually showed up for every single person who would see the replay.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I sale solely on my site. From experience between processing fees and splitting profit with 3rd parties you’re left with little to no profit which forces your profit margin to raise; this can sometimes hurt you. My logic is to build the brand with dedication and longevity and once the influx of clients come offer best sellers through a 3rd party! I believe you have to leave some exclusively to you!
