We recently connected with Rashad Robinson and have shared our conversation below.
Rashad, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
How I came up with my brand name SpeedyFlicks is a mixture between my love for sports and art of photography. The name SpeedyFlicks started with me playing sports all my life. Growing up playing football and basketball I had nicknames but they just didn’t stick. It wasn’t until I was in the 8th grade when I started running track and fell in love with being a sprinter. Sprinters are fast, explosive, and have speed. My brother Amir Hall then gave me the nickname Speedy and people started calling me that. I then picked up the camera in the summer of 2019 and would always call pictures “flicks”. So I asked my friend Marvin Autry at a party what my brand name should be called and he responded SpeedyFlicks. Instantly I fell in love with the name and have been using it ever since.
Rashad, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m 25 years old and a photographer/videographer based out of Prince George’s County, Maryland. I got started when I graduated from The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania in 2019. I noticed my mother had purchased a camera and then I instantly became interested in taking pictures of my sister’s senior prom. Once we were there I then started taking pictures and fell in love with what I can do with the camera and started taking my art more seriously.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To create art that is authentic and that resonates with who I am as a person. When you see my art I want the viewer to see my perspective of the world.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing myself grow as a person and creative. Remembering the long nights and the hard work I put in to get where I am today. Also creating the art that fulfills myself and seeing the world appreciate your art as well
