Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rashad Jiles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Rashad thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Rashad Eats The World was born from my travels as a flight attendant. During the pandemic I wasn’t able to visit some of my favorite places and eat some of my favorite foods like Aguachiles in Mexico, which feels like my back yard since I live in Texas, and other things like the bold spices of the Caribbean and unique foods of Europe. So I decided to get in the kitchen and make it myself! I noticed sharing my knowledge and experience with an audience on social media was really taking off. It felt like my followers were living through me! I love that feeling. Exposing them to new things or even providing more insight on things they were curious about.
It became so popular it started to take me away from the thing that inspired it all. Being that I have so much wanderlust I wondered how I would be able to manage the two. Because travel was and still is a HUGE part of my life.
I thought about how and what I wanted my life to look like, how I wanted to continue to inspire. I came to the conclusion that being a flight attendant was only a part of the things I needed to do to to fulfill my purpose. I had the opportunity to resign from the airline and go full force into content creation and cooking but I turned it down a number of times because it did not seem practical. The Universe has a funny way of telling you where, when, how, and WHO you need to be in this world. I was presented with the opportunity to resign again but this time I was more sure than ever. This was a HUGE risk for me. I was now going to have to solely depend on myself. Make my own schedule, create my own leads, and the part that scared me the most is that I was going to have to pay myself!
After almost 3 years of entrepreneurship I am finally feeling I have a grip on it all. I have been presented with way more opportunities than I could have ever imagined and the amount of money I can make does not have a cooperate cap!
In conclusion it was worth the risk! I loved my job however, it was not aligned with my future. As scary as it was and at times still is, I am more than glad I took one of the biggest risks of my life to change it all for the better
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
have always been curious about other cultures and how people live in different parts of the world. So much so at one point I thought I wanted to study anthropology.
My goal is to help bridge the cultural gaps though food. Food is one of the things we have in common across all cultures. Most of the times we eat a lot of the same ingredients they are just prepared in a different way.
My hope is that people who are curious, or even completely uninterested take a deeper look into other cultures even if it started with food. I am proud to say that I have achieved this goal. Now I have set my goals even high by trying to tackle a bigger reach.
My favorite thing is when my followers say things like “ I never would have thought to do that” or “ Really that’s it?!”. It gets me excited and makes me want to share even more!
Because I have decided to go full force with living my dream I have been blessed to work alongside some amazing chefs who have taught me things that I will cherish and also be able to share with others and I have be presented with the opportunity to continue to travel and explore more of the world. I even recently started a supper club series traveling across the country cooking recipes from around the world for guests to enjoy.
I’ve grown so much across social media platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency, consistency, consistency! In the beginning I was posting just a Post I remember wondering why my Contant wasn’t getting the views that I felt like it should. If I’m being honest, I wanted to give up. Having other Creatives around definitely kept me on track they told me things like be authentic and just show up. This is what I thought I was doing but in all actuality, I was doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing I took that advice, and I showed up genuinely as myself from there I started to build an organic following but it still wasn’t a hit. Then another creative told me you have to be consistent, so that’s what I did for almost 30 days straight. I posted every single day, and when I say that consistency paid off that is exactly what I mean I had to post go viral both reaching over 1 million views I was a static and if I’m being honest again I’ll let it go to my head but I was quickly humbled and I got right back on my grind. My advice to any other content creators who are trying to grow their audience on social media first and foremost show up authentic be consistent and do your research. It can be hard sometimes trying to analyze the data that’s out there telling you how to grow your social media but once you find that balance of showing up as who you are and the algorithms, you’ll be just fine.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of all of this is exposing people to new things. I knew a long time ago that I aspire to inspire.. when I was a flight attendant people would tell me that it was their dream job and they would ask me for advice. Some of them would actually go for it and then get the job and then I get a message saying I’m so glad I talk to you because this is something that I’ve always wanted to do, and I finally got to do it.. I feel the same way when it comes to try new things and explain other cultures. I find it so rewarding with my followers send me messages or comment and say things like a simple thank you or they tell me that they’ve tried a new cuisine for the first time that they wouldn’t have tried if they hadn’t seen me try it or make it.
