We were lucky to catch up with Rashad recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rashad, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
People don’t understand the true dedication it takes to stay in the game. I’ve taken risk beyond my financial bracket and even beyond the tolerance that others have for me while watching me take them. To be creative is risky within itself because there is no guarantee that those you present your creativity to would approve of it or not. The biggest risk so far is still going after what I want after seeing so many lose faith in me. Watching others distance themselves as they believe I’m not worth the time or energy to even believe in. However I do not blame anyone I simply embody the doubt and use it as a driving force to keep going. I’m a highly determined individual who believes that I’m called to do these innovative and motivational actions.
Rashad, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So to start off with how I truly entered into this business I actually have been drawing since I was a kid. I entered into drawing contest but I would do it on and off . Then one day I ended up in a studio around the age of 17-18 just in the spur of the moment. Next thing I know I’m passing out CD’s in my neighborhood of some music me and some homies did. At first it was just a hobby that was good for therapy then I would soon begin to see the impact of what we thought was just music. So a few years ago I decided to take it seriously and to go as deep as I can into the world of music and make my passion my mission. I take honor in making music that can help others as a way of therapy because when I realized that I used to listen to music and how it made me feel better I wanted to do the same for others. I’ve had people reach out to me and tell me their favorite songs and tell me they appreciate me for them and wish me the best on my success. It’s truly a wonderful feeling for sure. It makes me proud to know that I have given a positive impact to a certain amount of people that matter to me. I’m still a work in progress however as I just kicked a bad marijuana and alcohol habit that started around age 18. I’m 2 months completely sober at this time and I’VE made a promise to myself to keep it this way for good. This also is the reason I’m willing to give this next moment the best I can give it because i know that others have dealt with those same bad habits. I’m not saying it was just taking over my life completely but it definitely has been a hurdle that I’ve jumped at this point. To be a beacon of light for those who feel like they can’t they will soon look at me and become motivated and say “I CAN”. As for my brand “art world productions” a business I started because of my passion for the arts I’m still looking to grow and expand and hopefully get more entrepreneurs involved with me to take it to the next level. All in all I’m confident in my future and keeping a positive outlook regardless of what the outcome will be.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best way to support an artist is simply hearing us out. I believe we need open minds and an open line of communication with one another so we can co exist and build towards a greater more positive future.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Freedom is the most rewarding part of being an artist. It comes with a price yes, like criticism, hate, mockers, bullies and a lot of other dark actions from others. Yet to create is a feeling of freedom and imagination is the most beautiful part of it. Painting vivid pictures from your vision for the world to see. PURE freedom!
