We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ras Chibuzo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ras below.
Ras, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew from very early that music was the path for me. I grew up in Time and Patience, a small village in Jamaica, surrounded by nature. Singing as a child gave me a euphoric, blissful feeling, it was more than just fun, it felt like my purpose. By the age of nine, I was already writing songs and shaping melodies. That was when I knew I didn’t just love music , I wanted to live it.
My biggest influence has always been Lutan Fyah, but I also drew deep inspiration from artists like Sizzla, Anthony B, Ginjah, and I-Octane, as well as reggae pioneers like Peter Tosh. Their tones, passion, and lyrical power taught me how music could move people and speak truth.
At home, my father’s stereo introduced me to the voices of Kenny Rogers, Elvis Presley, and Percy Sledge, while my mother sparked my love for sound with a xylophone she brought from New York. And then there was my uncle, Clinton “Jakk Stero” Clarke, a reggae producer and engineer, who became my first musical icon. He recognized my gift and kept encouraging me to sing, introducing me to studios and legendary artists like Marcia Griffiths and Freddie McGregor, who later became a mentor.
Even though my parents didn’t support my dream at first, I never stopped. My resilience kept me moving forward. Music became my calling, and I knew this was the path I was destined to walk.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Ras Chibuzo, an international recording artist born in Jamaica and now based in Florida. My music is rooted in reggae and dancehall, but it’s more than entertainment, it’s a reflection of my soul, my culture, and my mission to inspire.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge conscious reggae roots with modern dancehall energy, creating music that uplifts while also moving the crowd. My songs carry messages of resilience, love, and empowerment, whether it’s encouraging people to “Stay Alive” alongside Anthony B, or celebrating my culture in tracks like Jamaica Land.
One of my proudest achievements is releasing my debut album Royal Soul, featuring reggae greats Anthony B, Ginjah, and Prophecy. And now, I’m building on that foundation with my upcoming Dancehall EP Cruising, a project designed to connect globally, celebrate the ladies, and bring a fresh crossover energy to my sound.
At the heart of it all, my brand is about authenticity, consciousness, and passion. I want listeners to feel uplifted, inspired, and proud of who they are when they hear my music.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is the connection. Music allows me to share my soul with people I’ve never met, and yet, when they listen, it feels like we know each other. Seeing how a song can lift someone’s spirit, give them hope, or even just make them dance and forget their troubles, that’s the real blessing.
It’s also rewarding to know that I’m carrying forward a tradition. Reggae and dancehall have always been about voice, culture, and truth, and to be part of that legacy while adding my own story is something I’m deeply proud of.
Every time I step on stage or release new music, I feel like I’m fulfilling my purpose using sound as a way to heal, inspire, and bring people together. That feeling is priceless.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes, definitely. One of the most impactful books for me has been The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I first read it in high school, and it has stayed with me ever since. It teaches about growing beyond the egoic mind and finding balance in conscious being, lessons that continue to guide me both in life and in music.
Another book that shaped my thinking is Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill. It challenged me to look deeper into the obstacles we create for ourselves and how discipline and clarity can overcome them. Tolle’s Stillness Speaks also gave me tools to understand presence and the strength in stillness, which reflects in the way people connect to my energy and my music.
Beyond these, the wisdom of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I has been a cornerstone for me. His teachings instill discipline, dignity, and a royal way of carrying oneself, which I hold close in my artistry and in my personal life.
These resources have helped me develop not just as an artist, but as a man, grounding me in philosophy, presence, and discipline while allowing me to inspire and resonate deeply with people.
