We were lucky to catch up with Rarosue Amaraibi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rarosue, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The mission behind Sustainability Nuggets podcast emerged from my experience straddling two worlds: the technical realm of sustainable technology research and the general public’s understanding of environmental issues. As a researcher specializing in sustainable technologies, I noticed a significant gap between the complex scientific solutions being developed and public awareness of these innovations.
This podcast was born from the belief that sustainability knowledge shouldn’t be confined to academic papers or technical conferences. Our mission is to break down complex sustainability concepts into digestible “nuggets” of information that anyone can understand and apply. Whether we’re discussing innovative technologies, circular economy principles, or practical steps for sustainable living, our goal is to make this knowledge accessible and actionable.
What makes this mission particularly meaningful to me is the opportunity to bridge my research background with public education. Each episode represents a chance to translate complex scientific concepts into everyday language, helping listeners understand not just what sustainable solutions exist, but how they can be part of creating a more sustainable future. Seeing our podcast climb to the 13th spot among global sustainability podcasts as published by Feedspot validates our approach of making sustainability knowledge accessible to everyone.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey in sustainability began with a simple yet powerful realization: while scientists and researchers were developing innovative solutions for environmental challenges, many people lacked access to this knowledge in an understandable format. This insight led me to found Green Club Nigeria, where we focus on making sustainability concepts accessible to diverse audiences.
What truly sets our work apart is our flagship project, the Sustainability Nuggets podcast. Drawing from my background as a sustainability researcher with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, I break down complex environmental concepts into digestible information that resonates with everyday listeners. Our podcast has grown significantly, now ranking 13th among global sustainability podcasts, reaching audiences who are eager to understand and act on sustainability principles.
My expertise in sustainable technologies and circular economy solutions enriches our podcast content, allowing me to bridge the gap between scientific innovations and practical applications. This combination of technical knowledge and communication skills helps our audience understand cutting-edge sustainability concepts and their real-world implications.
What I’m most proud of is our multi-format approach to sustainability education. We understand that people learn differently, so we convert our podcast discussions into blog posts on our website. This strategy ensures our content reaches both listeners and readers, making sustainability knowledge accessible to everyone, regardless of their preferred learning style.
For potential followers and listeners, I want them to know that Sustainability Nuggets is more than just a podcast – it’s a platform where complex sustainability concepts become clear and actionable. Whether you’re a student, professional, or simply someone interested in living more sustainably, our content provides practical insights and solutions.
Join us in our mission to make sustainability knowledge accessible and actionable. Whether through our podcast episodes, blog posts, or social media content, we’re here to help you understand and contribute to building a more sustainable world.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of my most significant pivots came during my transition from Nigeria to the United States for graduate studies. As the founder of Green Club Nigeria, I faced a critical challenge: how to sustain and grow our environmental education initiative when our volunteer base was dispersing geographically.
This situation demanded a complete rethinking of our approach. Rather than viewing the geographical shift as a limitation, I saw it as an opportunity to transform Green Club Nigeria into a global online education platform. With an entrepreneurial mindset, I conducted extensive research on effective methods for creating and disseminating educational content online.
Recognizing the need for a strong team, I strategically recruited volunteers who shared our passion for sustainability and possessed the necessary skills for content creation. Together, we developed a multi-format approach, creating blog articles, infographics, videos, and most notably, the Sustainability Nuggets podcast.
This pivot proved transformative. Our podcast has been consistently ranked among the top sustainability podcasts globally since 2022, rising to number 13 in 2024. By embracing adaptability and being willing to reimagine our delivery methods, we’ve overcome geographical limitations and established a prominent presence in the sustainability education landscape.
The key lesson from this experience was the power of turning obstacles into opportunities. Through careful planning, adaptability, and strategic collaboration, we transformed a local initiative into a global platform reaching audiences worldwide.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My collaboration with Tosin Folorunso began during our Master’s program in Global Sustainability at the University of South Florida. What started as a shared academic journey soon evolved into a powerful professional partnership that would significantly impact Green Club Nigeria’s growth.
Initially, Tosin helped with Green Club Nigeria’s initiatives while we were in the same program. However, her involvement took on new significance after we completed our studies. She noticed that despite the potential of our platform, we weren’t being as consistent as we could be with our content delivery. Instead of simply pointing out the challenge, she offered to step in as project manager for Green Club Nigeria.
Her project management expertise proved transformative. Together, we repositioned Green Club Nigeria and the Sustainability Nuggets podcast to create greater impact. What makes our partnership particularly effective is how we complement each other’s strengths. As I focus on the technical and research aspects of sustainability, Tosin brings strong organizational and strategic skills to the table.
This synergy has evolved further, with Tosin becoming my co-host on the Sustainability Nuggets podcast. Her contributions have gone far beyond project management – she’s become an integral part of our mission to make sustainability knowledge accessible to a global audience.
