Ransford , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?

Icyy Brand is a clothing company that promotes self expression at its highest level. For me fashion has always been such an important outlet to where i can be my authentic self and be as creative as i want to be. With no apologies. That is what Icyy brand is all about. Being unique, moving to the beat of your own drum, never trying to fit into the crowd but standing out of the crowd. Having the confidence to be who you are, regardless of what other people think.

This is the message that I believe was worth wild to pursue and is something that i am passionate about. However starting a business is never a clean and easy process. It comes with ups and downs , wins and loses. It is a risk i was willing to take in order to express myself creatively. Putting myself and my art out there comes with risk that was scary in the beginning, I eventually overcame that fear and left it in God’s Hands .

Ransford , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Ransford Nyamaah aka Ranz and i am the creative director and CEO of Icyy Brand . Icyy was founded in 2018 based in Dallas, TX that prides itself off providing quality apparel and the passion of its creator, combined with eclectic, one-of-kind designs with elements of urban street wear. I do not have any formal training specific to fashion design. My passion came from designing clothes for myself, family and close friends at an early age and from watching my mother make traditional Ghanaian attire from premium fabrics. Seeing and learning from her laid the foundation of how to design pieces. The thing that makes me most proud about the brand is having a idea and executing my vision into clothes that people enjoy. i hope to reach even more people so they can see my vision as well.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

For me i let me 9 to 5 fund my 5 to 9 . Meaning prior to me starting Icyy i had a plan to save a certain amount of money and use that money to fund my passion. i saved money for about two years. It was at that point that i felt comfortable launching the brand. Any profit i made i reinvested that money back into the company. After a few years of growth in the business and support from people around the city of Dallas i was blessed enough to secure an angel investor. This is someone who believed in me enough to invest in my brand. This was very helpful in taking my brand to the next level.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.

I use both. I have a website that I created through shopify (www.icyybrand.com) and i also utilize Facebook shop, Instagram shop and The Shop App. Honestly i don’t see any cons in having my brand on multiple platforms. This maximizes visibility and allows me to meet different customers where they are at.
