I think what makes us unique is our food, experience, and service. We offer 3rd generation authentic recipes, we have original art and great music that sets the vibe, and we also take pride in exceptional service. We’re all about that authentic, customizable experience. At Chronic Tacos, you get to build your meal exactly how you want it. Once, a customer walked in with a super specific dietary restriction. Our team went above and beyond to create a custom taco that fit her needs. She was blown away and became one of our most loyal customers. That’s the Chronic Tacos difference—everyone leaves happy and full!

Randy Wyner is the founder of Chronic Tacos, the Southern California chain of fast-casual Mexican food restaurants. Born and raised in Orange County, Randy draws his inspiration from the distinct Californian food culture. Randy grew up on authentic Mexican food and signature SoCal taquerias. It was his belief that the tastiest taquerias tended to be small, family-owned shops that led him to open his first Taco shop using third generation family recipes he acquired from a close family friend. When Randy was struck with the idea of made-to-order Mexican food that was both fast and fresh, Chronic Tacos was born.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
Oh man, where do I start? One of the wildest moments was definitely when we decided to throw a massive taco-eating contest that turned into an annual event. We partnered with Sabroso and hosted this event in front of 10,000 people and had eaters from all over show up, including one of the greatest professional eaters of all time, Kobayashi, who demolished 157 tacos in 10 minutes! The energy was electric, and it really showed me just how much our fans love what we’re doing.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One unexpected challenge was finding the right franchisees who shared our vision and passion. We overcame this by developing a thorough vetting process and ensuring we provided comprehensive support. Another challenge was maintaining quality and consistency across locations, which we tackled by implementing strict quality control measures and continuous training programs.
