We were lucky to catch up with Randy Sternberg recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Randy, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I love what I do. No I don’t wonder about working a regular job. Sometimes the security of a regular job is appealing.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a writer, director, and producer. I started as a production assistant nearly 30 years ago, and have done various things in the industry over the years. I make films that inspire, enlighten, and entertain families and individuals worldwide. I am currently adapting a book series (Carbynarah Chronicles) that I’ve written 3 screenplays on, and looking to get one of them financed and made into a movie. I really don’t know what really separates me from others in this industry other than I maybe I have a passion to make films that change the world, and am not so concerned about entertaining people as in making films that provide insight, and teach values vss. fluff. I am mostly proud of being able to be creative in the filmic process, whether that’s in making a film on an extremely low budget, or finding a creative way to tell a story. My first film, Pitching Love and Catching Faith was shot in 12 days and on a budget less than $100k, and it’s gross return has been more than triple that, and I self distributed the movie myself and was able to get in in 8 theaters collectively and stay in the theaters for 3 weeks. It was a lot of work, but was a good accomplishment, especially having no experience in doing it. And 80% of the crew were rookie filmmakers practically out of film school. It was quite a feat in my opinion.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to make films that inspire, enlighten, and entertain people. Simply stated. I want to make films that move you or educate you, or teach some profound or moral value that helps each of us become better people.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Story by Robert McKee. It was the best book I’ve ever read on screenwriting and story telling. Very informative.
