We were lucky to catch up with Randall Twins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Randall thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
We first knew we wanted to be professional dancers or dancers in general when we used to watch dance videos of Aliya Janel, Nicole Kirkland, Shemeka Ann, and Cisco on YouTube and Instagram. We knew little to nothing about dance. All we wanted to do was be like them. From there, we trained with different people along the way and then made the big leap and started teaching our own classes called Pair of Feels.
Randall, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey y’all! Our names are Elajee’ and Enjenee’ Randall but you can call us, “The Randall Twins”. We are professional models and dancers from New York, NY. We got into dance at a young age but as we grew older, us and dance grew apart. It wasn’t until 2018 that we started dancing again from watching other choreographers on Instagram and YouTube. From there, we started taking dance classes here in New York and made different connections with different people. The thing we love most about the dance community is that it is so diverse and there is literally a class for everything! You also meet so many beautiful and talented people, some of who we have gotten really close to. My sister and I host dance classes here in NY. Our brand is called “Pair of Feels”. Pair of Feels is a heel-based dance class, and we ONLY teach to slow/RnB music. Slow choreography, as easy as it sounds, is actually harder than you think. It teaches you to slow down, MILK the choreo/movements, and FEEL the song. Dance is all about telling a story through movement and turning it into a performance. Each class, we set intentions/goals we want to achieve or work on because it helps them and us strive for growth. We want people who take our class to feel their most sexy and most authentic selves. They can come as they are, dress however they want to dress and express their feelings however they want. What sets us apart from others is that we take pride in creating a safe space and a judgement free zone. We make sure to emphasize that regularly to show everyone the same support and energy they would want for themselves. I’m most proud of the environment we set for our classes. Sometimes after people take our classes, some of them express to us how it made them feel. Here are some of the responses: “Thank you, thank you, thank you ladies. You girls are truly a blessing. I used to dance since I was 2 but then stopped around high school. Yesterday was my risk taker and I thank you ladies again, y’all gave me my confidence back.”
“Thank you ladies and queens for reminding me why I dance. Your class was a vibe as usual cause you ladies carry such beautiful energy.”
“This was my first class with the twins and it was such a supportive environment and fun vibe that makes me want to come back, so I’m soo excited for the next classes to come.”
The connections we made through dance then brought us to modeling. We started modeling in 2020 because of the pandemic to keep busy, not realizing that it was going to be the best thing we could have ever done. We have been published in numerous magazines, walked in many fashion shows across different states including during NYFW and were seen on the news two times in 5 months. Our work ethic is truly unmatched. We are determined and dedicated to go after everything we know we can have. And if something doesn’t end up going our way, we brush it off and try again, or try something else. One day, we hope to have our classes in different states, dance on tour, work with big named brands like Gucci and have everyone know who The Randall Twins are.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Some things society can do to best support us artists/creatives is to share our business. Tell a friend, a family member, colleague or anyone that could benefit from it. Support is free and unfortunately for the most part, it comes from strangers. The best way someone else can learn about your business is if you have a support system and have people in your corner who have the same mindset as you.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is hearing how my art made others feel and listening to their thoughts and opinions on it. The critiques and the praises all help me to be a better artist. Seeing the joy and excitement on people’s faces is priceless.
